World Handicap System makes CBL fairer – PRGC off to a great start!

Saturday 1st May CBL returned

The Chiltern Breakfast League kicked off last weekend with a team from Princess Risborough travelling to Richings Park near Ivor for our first fixture in 2 years.

On a bright but chilly morning the 6 four ball match play matches drove off from 9.30am, on a course that is over 6300 yards some 1000 yards longer than PR!

This was always going to be a tough challenge, though with a slope index of 128 we all benefitted from a shot or two.

It turned out to be a great match and we came away with a fantastic 3 all draw with our winning pairs Barry Woledge and Gavin Adams a brilliant 4 and 2, Alastair Wardrop and Pete Major a great 3 and 2, and Steve and Andy Wagerfield a great 2 up victory.

Unfortunately we could not get the extra half point for the match victory, but Neil Terry and Brian Sims, Dave Mackenzie and Jim Findlay, and Craig Whitworth and Steve Sargeant all had close loses.

This was a great start to the season played in great spirit, wonderful course and fine food and beverage after, all in COVID secure and safe environment.

We have two more matches coming up on the 5th and 12th of June at home to Richings Park and Stocks, which we are all looking forward to, then 3 more matches to complete this year’s program during the summer,

The competition rules cap players at a maximum of 19.6 HI, should anybody be interested in making themselves available for selection for matches then please get in touch with me.

All the best for the season

Steve

The PGA National Pro-Am Qualifying Medal – 23rd, 24th, 25th April

We have agreed with Bruce Loome to enter this years' PGA National Pro-Am. This event replaces what in the past was the Lombard and then the Virgin Atlantic Pro Am and the format has changed to a mixed event open to gentlemen and ladies. Our April medal to be played over the weekend of Friday 23, Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 will be used as our qualifying competition and the winner will go forward to partner Bruce in the Regional Qualifier at Foxhills on 07 June.  The winners of that will go forward to the Grand Final in Antalya, Turkey in November. We have had a grand finalist in the past in Neil Terry so it is there for the taking. I attach the detailed notice for your personal information. The £6 entry fee is to, in part, cover the entry fees we have to pay to the PGA

Men’s April Update 1 from Barry…

We have made a couple of changes to the diary for April so please make a note:
April Seniors Stableford Qualifier: due to the inclement (AKA very cold) weather expected next week we have moved this event back one week to Tuesday 13th April. Usual rules apply with a white tee competition for the under 75's and a yellow tee event for the 75's and over
The Spring Stableford: this the first "Board Event" of the year will go ahead as planned on Friday 16th and Saturday 17th April. The detailed notice is attached for your personal information
The PGA National Pro-Am Qualifying Medal: we have agreed with Bruce Loome to enter this years' PGA National Pro-Am.
That's it for now. We are back playing golf so fingers crossed we can continue.

Stay safe and best wishes

Barry

THE WAGS ARE BACK!! Wednesday Afternoon Roll-Up, Roll Up!!

WAGS returns on Wednesday 31st, March

For newer members who may be unaware of WAGS (and a simple reminder to those who have played before), it is essentially a roll up played on Wednesday afternoons/evenings mainly for a bit of competition, fun and socialising.

Due to the Covid situation, it cannot initially run "as normal" but with a bit of goodwill from the participants we can have a WAGS season which will gradually migrate back to its usual way of running.

Who can play?

All members are most welcome!

Entrance Fee and Timetable

For the first two weeks, entry will be £5 per player. This will provide cash prizes for the best three stableford scores of the afternoon. No drink at this stage as the bar is closed.

On Wednesday April 14th, the clubhouse will be serving food and drink outside (rule of 6) and the entry fee will move to £7 per player. This provides a free drink and the balance provides the prize fund. There will be cash prizes for the best two stableford scores and third place will get a free entry for the next 9 holes they play.

On Wednesday 19th May, the clubhouse will be serving drinks inside (rule of 6) and outside  (rule of 30)

On Wednesday 23rd June - no limits on numbers inside or outside

Entrance fee payment

From the 19th May,  we should be able to deal with all monies on the day and other than the rule of six that will apply indoors, WAGS should effectively have returned to "normal".  Prior to that, entry fees/prize money will probably have to be dealt with over subsequent weeks, perhaps electronically.

Signing up to Play

For the first two weeks, send a message to the WAGS group on WhatsApp to say you are playing and then send a picture of the scorecard to the group when you have finished playing.

If you would like to play in WAGS, I need your contact details in order to add you to the WhatsApp Group - so you will need to have the App on your phone. Send a text message to me on 07802 871679 telling me your name and I will add you to the group.

At some point we may move back to the sign up sheets in the clubhouse - lets see.

Blocked Times:

Week 1 (March 31st): Remaining times available to booked into... 5.30. 5.40. 5.50pm

Week 2 (April 7th): 4.50. 5.00, 5.10, 5.20, 5.30, 5.40pm

Please provide 7 days notice that you wish to play within one of these times.  Unused slots will be released for e-Player cards.

We will get a better flavour over time for when people want the block and how many people will be playing (ie how big the block needs to be)

The Rules of Play

  • Yellow tees.
  • Strokes allowed is your playing handicap x 95% divided by 2.
    17.1 x 95% = 16.245 / 2 = 8.1225 which in this case rounds down to 8
  • Cards should be submitted on How Did I Do following the required procedure.
  • First place will be deducted 2 strokes from their strokes allowed the next time they play.
  • Second place will be deducted 1 stroke from their strokes allowed the next time they play.
  • Last place will be given 1 extra stroke the next time they play.
  • Strokes deducted or given will last only for the next 9 holes you play.

NB At some point, the use of WhatsApp for entering information will likely decline as the clubhouse will be functional.

If I have missed anything out above, I will make it up as we go along!

Happy WAGS 2021

Dave MacKenzie
