Men’s Update Sept 2023

CAPTAINS COMMUNICATION NUMBER 9

GENERALLY

Welcome to my September Captains Communication.
My first note relates to the future of the club captaincy. After a great deal of consideration Steve
Sargeant has, for a number of reasons, decided not to stand as Captain next year. He will
however continue to take a very active role within the club and remain on the committee. As a
result, I am very pleased to announce that Dick Pooley will stand for election at the AGM as
Captain for 2024, and I hope you will support his nomination in due course.
August’s inclement weather unfortunately interrupted some of our club events but nevertheless the
month was still relatively busy, with a number of inter-club matches and with the continuation of
the Summer tournaments. Also of course 26th August was my Captains Day and I have issued a
separate communication specifically covering this.

CLUB CALENDAR – SEPTEMBER 2023

I attach the current SEPTEMBER 2023 detailed calendar and will post a copy on the notice board
together with the latest October details.
In particular I would draw your attention to:
• Club Stableford on Saturday 9th September – a copy of the notice will be
posted in the changing rooms.
• The 9-Hole Club Championship on Wednesday 20th September – again the notice will be
posted for this event.
• Club Medal on Saturday 23rd September
• The California Cup on Sunday 24th September
• The Mixed Club Stableford on Friday 29th September.
• The ‘RyderHeim’ Cup on Saturday 30th September. A separate notice will be sent out for
this.
If you wish to play in any of the competitions, please simply continue to follow the normal process
for entry.

SUMMER PAIRS AND SINGLES TOURNAMENTS

These events are now in their late stages, and we should know the results within the next month
or so. Good luck to those still in the events.

AUGUST COMPETITION RESULTS

Congratulations to the following August winners:
• Club Stableford 5/8/23 – Cancelled due to weather.
• The Men’s Summer Pairs 12/8/23 – Brian Sims and Dennis Mawby
• Club Mixed Stableford 18/8/23 – Cancelled due to weather.
• Club Medal 19/8/23 – Neil Martin

MATCH RESULTS

The Seniors played two matches in the month with a home win against Waterstock and a very
close loss to Whiteleaf away. At the time of writing the match against Huntswood away on 31st
was still to be played.
My usual request that if you are interested in playing club matches and have not already let the
organisers know, please contact either me, Steve Sargeant or Dick Pooley.
Our ladies continue to have great season. They entered the league this year (after a few years
out) in which there were 2 pools. They won pool B and Chartridge park won pool A. They now play
the final at Weston Turville on Wednesday 13th September. GOOD LUCK LADIES

“WAGS WINDUP”

This is an early notice that the WAGS (Wednesday Afternoon Golf Society) are having their annual
windup session and dinner on Saturday 4th.
November, and I attach a copy of their poster for the
evening celebration. I am advised that anyone wishing to play golf on the day (18 holes) are
welcome and it's only a £6.00 entry fee for the prizes. If you are interested, please contact
Graham Blackwell direct on 07845 668941 or email graham.blackwell58@gmail.com.

CHARITY FUND RAISING

The final charity fund raising event of my year for the joint Ladies and Men’s Charities will be a
BINGO NIGHT on Friday 22nd September and a separate invite has been sent out for this. I have
run Bingo nights before at the club and they have been great fun so book your places now.

COURSE UPDATE

Jack and Chris have been working hard on the course which is in excellent condition so please
help keep it this way by following the course etiquette requirements and standards and reminding
others to do so.
The remeasured course slope ratings and related stroke indexes will soon be concluded and
should be ready for publication later this year.

CLUBHOUSE UPDATE

Sarah and her team continue to give us great support and service and we are pleased to see
another new member in Georgie who seems to have settled in well. Gary and his team continue to
work on improvements, and I know that Gary welcomes any feedback you may have.

MIXED PAIRS SUMMER ‘ECLECTIC’ 2023 & HUTLEY CUP

The mixed pairs events of the summer eclectic and the Hutley Cup continue to progress with the
Hutley now in its semi-final stage. With specific regard to the mixed eclectic consideration is
currently being given to extending the completion date due to other conflicting ongoing events. A
specific update will be issued to those involved very soon.

COMMITTEE ASSISTANCE

I am pleased to advise that Doug Taylor is continuing with his support and help in organising some
future club events and you will be hearing from him direct very soon. Of course, we are still looking
for committee support next year so if you are interested, please let me know – irrespective of how
little time you think you may be able to give.

BRUCE LOOME – PGA PROFESSIONAL

The usual reminder that if you need some help with your golf, we are lucky to have Bruce
available. Please contact him at blpga@me.com.

Thank you for your continued support to our club and the various events and competitions and to
me personally. As usual if you should have any related comments, feedback or queries please feel
free to contact me or any of the Committee Members, and we will do our best to assist you.

Wow – Rally for Hallie… brilliant!

Just to say a BIG BIG thank you to everyone supporting the Rally For Hallie fund raiser and its not too late to scan the go fund me QR code and lend your support...

The Ladies generously let Alf and Derek storm through 72 hols of golf, just stopping for the odd refuel in a 12 hour marathon starting at 6 am!

Great friend Steve joined them for the last 3 holes to spur them on - very special moment.
Steve and his wife Julie came down from Coventry especially, both said how wonderful the club was and how friendly all the members were along with their generosity.

This has been a real morale boost for Hallie's family and Alf and Derek will keep us posted on progress.

Once again, on behalf of all at PRGC - the best of wishes to Hallie and a massive thank you to Alf Dobosz and Derek Gunning for their amazing 72 holer!

Rally for Hallie – help save a precious life – definitely worth reading…

'RALLY FOR HALLIE'

On Wednesday 23rd, Derek Gunning and Alf Dobosz, will be attempting a 72 hole day of golf at PRGC to raise money for my friends granddaughter - Hallie.
They tee off at 6.00am and are hoping to complete the 4x18 holes by 8.30pm - what a day - what a cause!!

They will be wearing the t shirts with Hallie on the front and a QR code on the back, which directs you to Hallie's GOFUNDME page.

On that page you can read more about Hallie's condition and the target required to hopefully save Hallie's life!

If you see them racing through the course, please help us by letting us charge past, but please don't forget to slip a donation in our golf bags, or ask for a snap of the QR code.

Hallie has to have a daily blood transfusion, and has been since she was diagnosed, also 3 failed stem cell attempts. In 2 weeks time she will know if she can have the life saving treatment. At that point they will let the cancer take over her body to get to 40%, once this has happened they do a full blood transfusion and "train" her blood to attack the cancer cells, once her blood is clear, she will have a transfusion to put it back in her - after that it's fingers crossed.

Our golf challenge is nothing to what Hallie has had to endure, however it's being done to hopefully give her a life - something we all take for granted.

So please RALLY FOR HALLIE!!!'

Clubhouse Refresh Continues…

The Clubhouse and Main Car Park refresh continues apace...

Latest work is to the ladies changing room where Emelia (Nigel's daughter) is repainting.  A new lighting solution is also being introduced over the coming weeks to brighten things up!  Emelia is doing a cracking job and if you need some painting done - we can pass you her details 🙂

We are also renovating the men's shower area over the coming weeks - so please excuse any disruption.

We will keep you posted ...
