Update – Preferred Lies on Fairways…

From BB&O

Dear All,

As of the 1st of October 2023, through to the 30th of April 2024, preferred lies on closely mown areas (maximum of 6 inch relief) are permissible. Please see Model Local Rule E-3 below.

"When a player's ball lies in a part of the general area cut to fairway height or less, the player may take free relief once by placing the original ball or another ball in and playing it from this relief area:

  • Reference Point: Spot of the original ball.
  • Size of Relief Area Measured from Reference Point: 6 inches from the reference point, but with these limits:
  • Limits on Location of Relief Area:
    • Must not be nearer the hole than the reference point, and
    • Must be in the general area.

In proceeding under this Local Rule, the player must choose a spot to place the ball and use the procedures for replacing a ball under Rules 14.2b(2) and 14.2e."

Kind regards,
John Kennedy, BB&O

Why are Preferred Lies on Fairways or 'Winter Rules' so important?

  1. Protects your course / fairways - reduces the likelihood of divots on fairways
  2. Extends the enjoyment of the summer season ie more enjoyable to play a fairway shot without mud on your ball or a poor lie

Thank you and enjoy the course!!

Ryderheim – October 7th 2023 – Last Opportunity to Sign Up

2023 RyderHeim Poster (1)

A final reminder about the RyderHeim Cup being held on Saturday 7th October, and the weather is currently looking fantastic!

So if you have not already registered for a team and/or advised me and Doug that you want to be in a team, would you please do so on or before Wednesday 4th October.
We need teams of 4 and if we get enough teams, we should be able to have a Shotgun start at around 09.00. If not, tee times will be allocated at intervals of 10 minutes. A short briefing is planned for c. 08.30 during coffee.
If you wish to play and don’t have enough players to form a full team, please let me know and we will try to sort out some additional team members for you.
A special score card and sheet will be produced for the event as of course this is not an event suitable for the WHS.
The £15 entry fee is payable as CASH ON THE DAY please and includes prizes, coffee before and lunch after.
Please sign up at the club as soon as you can, but in any event by Wednesday 4th October, with your team’s name and the names of your team members

Re-gripping your clubs can have several noticeable benefits:

  • Improved control and feel: New grips provide better traction, allowing you to maintain a relaxed grip on the club, resulting in improved control and feel throughout your swing.
  • Greater accuracy and consistency: With proper grip pressure and a secure hold, you can enhance your shot accuracy and consistency, leading to improved overall performance.
  • Reduced hand and wrist fatigue: Worn-out grips can force you to grip the club tighter, leading to unnecessary strain and fatigue in your hands and wrists. New grips can alleviate this issue and maintain a more relaxed grip.
  • Enhanced confidence: Knowing that you have fresh, sticky grips instils confidence in your swing and allows you to focus more on executing your shots rather than worrying about club slippage.

Contact Bruce on 07894 834281 for more details on the right grip for you

Prices for club grips range from £7 upwards depending on quality.  Putter grips may be more expensive.
