Submitting Away General Play Scores – What You Need to Do
If you’re playing a round at another golf club and want it to count towards your WHS handicap, there are just a couple of simple steps to follow. These steps come directly from England Golf and help make sure every score is treated fairly and consistently.
1. Before you tee off – pre‑register your round
England Golf requires all golfers to pre‑register their General Play round at the course where they are playing.
You can do this by:
- Using the MyEG app (the app will confirm you’re at the away course using GPS), or
- Asking the pro shop or reception at the away club to register the round for you.
Pre‑registration is essential because it confirms the round is being played under the correct conditions and protects the integrity of the handicap system.
2. Play your round with an attester
Your score must be attested, but the rules are now more flexible:
Your attester does not need to have a WHS handicap.
They simply need to have played with you and be able to confirm your score is correct.
This can be:
- A golfer with or without a handicap
- A friend or family member
- A member of the host club
- Anyone who played the round with you and can verify the score
3. After the round – return your score
You can return your score in one of these ways:
- Enter it directly in the MyEG app, or
- Ask the away club to enter it into their system.
If the away club cannot enter it, you may bring the card back to PRGC and we can enter it manually — but only if the round was pre‑registered correctly.
Why pre‑registration matters
England Golf’s guidance is very clear:
“All golfers must pre‑register their intent to submit a General Play score before they start their round.”
If a round isn’t pre‑registered at the away course, we are not allowed to accept the card for handicap purposes.
In summary
To make sure your away scores count:
- Pre‑register at the away course
- Play with an attester (they do not need a handicap)
- Submit your score via MyEG or the host club
- If needed, bring the card to PRGC for manual entry (only if pre‑registered)
