4 Ball Better Ball Club Comps – Update from Barry

For those members playing in the 4BBB pairs knockout competitions and those playing inter club matches please note that England Golf have now changed the handicap calculation as follows.

Firstly, find the course handicap for each player for the course being played (white, gold or bronze). From the four course handicaps, calculate the difference between the lowest handicapped player and each of the other three competitors. Once you have established those three handicaps (the lowest player is always off scratch) you take 90% of that handicap as the playing handicap. The playing handicap is rounded down if the decimal is 0.1 to 0.4 and rounded up if the decimal is 0.5 to 0.9.

I had not appreciated England Golf had planned this change when I set up the summer knockouts so the rules stated in HDIDo are incorrect. Please now apply this formula in all 4BBB matches.

Best wishes

Barry Woledge

Dick Pooley’s April 2024 Update

Sarah handing back the Glenfiddich Putter after close fought match...

PR GC Captains Monthly Message - April 2024.

Once again, a really warm welcome to all our new members who have joined in the last few weeks, both men and ladies.

As most players know March has been a really busy month, and April promises to be just as busy, in spite of the weather.

More reminders of dates for the Men.

Wednesday April 3rd - WAGs start up, front nine holes this week from 3.30 pm onwards, followed by (as short as possible) Mens Presentation evening. Both ladies and gents welcome to join in the WAGs golf. (Dave Mackenzie)

Saturday April 6th  -  Club Stableford (in lieu of April medal) - details in the changing room.

Tuesday April 9th - Seniors Monthly Club Stableford (Steve Williams/John White).

Monday April 15th  -  "On Course Foundation" Charity visit (Dick Pooley).

Thursday April 18th - Seniors second Friendly Match - Wycombe Heights away - tbc.  (David Orford)

Saturday April 20th - The Men's Spring Stableford. (Sods & Grumpies roll up etc) - [Phil Sloan and Pete Smith]

Tuesday April 23rd - St. Georges Day Celebration & Captains Challenge {Three clubs AND a putter} followed by roast beef lunch - £15.00 p.p. Both ladies and gents welcome (Dick Pooley)

The Seniors Winter CBL is culminating this month, with matches (weather permitting) on 4th, 8th, and 16th April, with the "wrap up" on 22nd April. Theoretically if we win all three of these matches, we could overtake Chartridge Pk who we lost to last week in a match which should probably have been called off, such was the deluge of rain!!  (Steve Sergeant)

The usual Tuesday and Friday competitions are always organised.

  1. Winter rules (pick & place on fairways) are still in place until 31st May 2024, an extension authorised by England Golf.

March Results.

In the Seniors Winter CBL, we played four matches, winning one and very narrowly losing three.

In the first Seniors Friendly, we beat Whiteleaf away 4 - 2.

The Captains team beat the Management team (Distinguishables vs Incorruptibles Challenge) 5 - 4.

Individually:- Congratulations to the following:-

Seniors Monthly Stableford - Tom Langton.

Club Monthly Stableford - Steve Wagerfield.

Mixed Friday Monthly Stableford - Tony Taylor.

Future Events.

Barry Woledge has now made the various draws for the five main internal Summer Club Board Competitions and all entrants will have been notified individually. I am determined that there will be NO excuses for not completing your matches by the time scale given; so please organise your matches as early as possible. {Failure to do so, may lead to the toss of a coin!}

I will be asking all those who have signed up for the Mens Away Golf Break to Staverton Pk Hotel & Golf Club, on 7th, 8th & 9th May 2024 to send over the trip balance very shortly.

Local Derby Match... We are delighted to announce that on Saturday 13th July we will be reigniting a special rivalry between ourselves and our friends over at Whiteleaf Golf Club..  This competition is open to members from both competing  9 hole golf clubs and will include 7 No Pairs from each club in a Matchplay event.

Starting the day with breakfast at Princes Risborough followed by our Front 9, this will then be followed by a back 9 at Whiteleaf Golf Club, with a lunch and presentation to finish.

Further details will be provided in due course, but if this is something you’d be interested in signing up for, please contact your Vice Captain, Phil Sloan who is organising the event.

Message,  from the "Red Socks" (run by Steve Wagerfield) - We would welcome some new members, playing on Tuesday and Friday mornings, teeing off around 11.30 am, playing to R & A Rules of Golf, with cards going in to the HowDidiDo system, monitored HCPs and small prize money winnings.

Pro Shop, Etiquette and a Gripe.

My regular request to support our well stocked Pro Shop run by Luke Viney;

My regular reminder to "rake bunkers, replace divots, and repair pitch marks";

It would appear that one or two gentlemen players have got a bit "lazy" in completing their score cards. These cards are not particularly onerous to fill in, and if the V1 computer is not working, the organisers of our competitions need to be able to read clearly the results from the cards. (at least five players last Friday were reprimanded!)

Finally a big "thank you" to all the staff who help to keep our Club running and work so hard; ie. front of house, bar staff, catering team, and greenkeeping team.

Most of all - Enjoy your golf!

Dick Pooley, Club Captain.
