Ladies June 2023 Update from Beryl

JUNE NEWSLETTER FROM YOUR LADIES COMMITTEE

Hello Ladies

May has proved to be a very busy month for the ladies with lots of golf played in very good weather.  That is the first time we have been able to say that for, what seems, a very long time.  Long may it last!.

May results:

Ladies Seniors Cup                              Winner: Jill Peppett

May Medals                                         Winner: Gerry Walker

Well done ladies!  The final competition in May is the Wishlade Trophy which will be played on 31 May and the result will be included in our next Newsletter.

The ladies travelled to the Wokefield Estate Golf Club for a two-night golf break on 15-17 May.   They all enjoyed the venue very much but found the golf course rather “challenging”!  They played for the White Horse Trophy on the second day of golf and the competition was won by Rosie Brand, with Pauline Allen coming second.  They had a fun time and many thanks to Rosie Brand and Melinda Pooley for organising the golf break.

The ladies won their first two matches of the Chiltern Ladies League, with a home win against Whiteleaf and an away win against Whipsnade.  What a brilliant start to the season!  Well done ladies.

Men’s May Update from Al Bowyer

Men's May 2023 Update

CAPTAINS COMMUNICATION NUMBER 5

GENERALLY

Welcome to my May Captains Communication. April again has been very busy at the club with several successful competitions and matches, which I highlight below.

CLUB CALENDAR – MAY 2023

I attach the current MAY 2023 detailed calendar which is of course another busy month with further various matches and club events. I would in particular draw your attention to the Granddads Cup on 16th May and the Mike Jefferson Trophy on Saturday 20th May.

I have posted this on the notice board together with the latest June details.

As usual if you wish to play in any of the competitions, please simply follow the normal process for entry.

SUMMER PAIRS AND SINGLES TOURNAMENTS

The Club and Seniors summer pairs and singles tournaments are under way, and I would encourage you to get your games played within the allotted timescales. In particular all first-round singles matches need to be completed by the end of May.

APRIL MENS RESULTS

Congratulations to the following April winners:

  • Mark Richards for winning the Seniors Stableford on 11th April with 38 points.
  • Neil Martin for his super winning score of 42 points (6 over gross!) in the Spring Stableford on 22nd April,
  • Steve Sargeant for his great win in the inaugural Friday Club Mixed Stableford om 28th April with 38 points
  • Andy Hall for his excellent win in the Club Medal on Saturday 29th April with a net score of 69

MATCH RESULTS

  • Having already won the league the Senior’s won their final CBL match against Aylesbury Vale by a superb 6-0 score.
  • In the main CBL the club won their match against Waterstock away, which is a difficult place to win so another great result.
  • And on 30th April the club also won their first Hillman Trophy match against Hazelmere.at home. Our next match in the round of 32 is against Three Locks.
  • To add to the successes the Seniors won a friendly match against Wycombe Heights away – a result which is a real rarity.
  • And finally, there was a tie in the friendly mixed match against Chartridge on 16th

Overall, another very successful month for your club and no doubt you will join me in thanking and congratulating all those who represented the club so well. In this connection, you may be aware that Steve Sargeant manages both CBL’s and the Hillman Trophy. His hard work and personal efforts are greatly appreciated by all involved.

If you are interested in playing club matches and have not already let the organisers know, please contact either me, Steve Sargeant or Dick Pooley.

FUTURE EVENT – THE BARCILON CUP

An early heads-up that the Club Championship – the Barcilon Cup is being held on the weekend of 24th & 25th June. Sign-up sheets will be posted on the notice board very soon.

COURSE UPDATE

We continue to get good feedback regarding the course from visiting clubs/teams which bodes well for the future and our own performance.

Our thanks must go to John, Chris and Zac (our recent recruit to the team) for the excellent work they are doing which is in turn delivering excellent results for us all. Please ensure when you see them around you, like me, pass on your positive comments.

CLUBHOUSE UPDATE

You will have seen Gary’s recent update saying farewell to Julie and Maddie and I am sure you will join me in wishing them all the very best for the future. Also, a big welcome to Will who has joined the team and of course great news that Luke who will become our new full time management trainee apprentice. So along with the thanks to our ‘green team’ our thanks also go to Sarah and the team who do a first class ‘front of house’ job for us all and the club.

COURSE ETIQUETTE

We are maintaining our drive for better and more consistent course etiquette and make no excuse for once again reminding you all to maintain high standards of etiquette and in particular repair all pitch marks, replace divots and rake bunkers. Thank you for doing this as it is helping to improve our course even more.

MIXED PAIRS SUMMER ‘ECLECTIC’ 2023

There is still just about time to enter this years mixed pairs eclectic and I am looking for more teams. If you want to play in this tournament, please advise me together with your playing partner. If you don’t currently have a playing partner let me know and I will find a suitable one for you.

COMMITTEE ASSISTANCE

As previously advised, we are still looking for additional assistance on the Committee particularly in the areas of competition organisation, so if you are able to volunteer some of your time to help, please contact either Steve Sargeant or me for further information.

BRUCE LOOME – PGA PROFESSIONAL

My usual reminder that Bruce is available for lessons so If you are interested in Bruce helping you to improve, please contact him at blpga@me.com.

Thank you all again for your continued support to our club and the various events and competitions. The more we become involved and enjoy our club course the more we will get out of it.  As usual if you should have any related comments, feedback or queries please feel free to contact me or any of the Committee Members, and we will do our best to assist you.

May 2023

Course is looking great!!

Some nicer weather, a lot of hard yards and how nice is it in the clubhouse with everyone coming in raving about how the course is looking and playing!! Massive thanks to the enlarged greenkeeping team, John, Chris and of course a massive welcome to Zak.

Be nice if people stuck to the fairways though Phil

... or even the greens... just saying 🙂

Hillman Trophy – result in against Hazlemere

Great result today, ran out 41/2 to 21/2 winners against Hazlemere in the Hillman Trophy. How it works: 7 Players - 3 with handicaps 6-9, 4 with handicaps 10 to 20.  Today we had to play 3 people off handicaps of 9 (who are currently 11 and 12 handicappers) so technically up against much better players.

The team; Neil Martin, Steve Sargeant, Alastair Wardrop, Pete Major, Alan Jackson, Dave Mackensie and David Orford all had cracking matches.

No slouches in this, the premium BB&O competition, we reached the quarter finals last year, punching well above our weight.  Tough matches though - following this win over Hazlemere, its the mighty Three Locks at PRGC.

We received great feedback on the course from Hazlemere and on the hospitality from Sarah and Trish.  Well done to everyone!!

What a top day for PRGC!!

Hello and au revoir…

Luke has been working with us part time for a short while now and has been absolutely brilliant. Great attitude, great enthusiasm and great ideas! We are delighted to announce that he will become a management trainee (apprentice) when he completes his studies this summer.

Maddie has stayed with us way beyond our expectations and we are delighted to say a massive thank you to her for the contribution she has made to the club.  Smart, engaging, full of ideas and will be an asset to any business that she joins.  Maddie is off to develop her skills and experience further, working in Youth Hostelling in Norfolk. We will hopefully see her again at the club soon.

Please say hello to Will who has made a cracking start at PRGC - a fast learner and a real team player.  Will has already amassed some great experience, working for the emergency services (including fire and rescue) as well as various local hospitality roles.  Please give him a warm welcome!

Please say au revoir to Julie who has been such an amazing team player at PRGC.  Infectious energy,  wonderful personality, kind and loyal to the last.  When PRGC needed her, Julie always stepped forward without being asked and we are so grateful and lucky to have kept her for so long.  Our loss is the Isle of Wight's gain and we wish her the very best in her new life there.

Bruce’s Short Game Master Class Sold Out – Lesson Availability Update…

Great news! Bruce's Short Game Master Class sold out within days and he is planning another one in July / August - let golf reception know if you are interested in reserving a place.

Grandads Cup – 16th May – Full Details…

Hello PRGC Members,
Most of you will be aware that each year we hold a Club Competition entitled ‘The Grandad’s Cup’. This annual event is open to all grandads who have an active current handicap. Senior members who do not have grandchildren are also welcome to take part, and they will play for a separate prize.
There will be a number of cash prizes PLUS the much-coveted Rocking Horse which will be awarded to the grandad who has the highest score when his Stableford score is added to his number of grandchildren.
This year the event is being held in the morning of Tuesday 16th May, in lieu of the normal Seniors roll-up and I attach a copy of the poster.
The cost is £5 cash to be paid on the day to the organiser and this will cover prizes, coffee before the start and related club expenses. Prizes, the Trophy and the Rocking Horse will be awarded on the day and the overall Stableford winner will be eligible for the Seniors Champion of Champions end of year event.
To enter The Grandad’s Cup please contact me by email:
albert.bowyer@btinternet.com  or phone 07807 776461
Remembering of course to advise me how many grandchildren (NOTE: not including great grandchildren!) you have.
The draw will be made over the weekend of 13th/14th May and therefore your entries must be received on or before Friday 12th May.
I very much look forward to receiving your entries and taking part in the event with you.
As usual, if you have any comments or related queries, please don’t hesitate to  contact me.
Thank you for your support.
Best wishes,
