Next Steps on Clubhouse ‘Spring Tidy’ Renovations…

Dear members,

thank you for your patience and understanding in the unforeseen delay to us concluding phase 2-5 of our spring tidy renovations.

Here is a quick update:

Phase 1: Renovation of the Princes Suite

Per our previous note, the new Princes Suite design is proving to be incredibly popular with members and visitors to the club.  Some finishing touches, including new blinds and a projector screen will complete the redesign. New glass in the blown windows will also add to the new look and feel.

Phase 2: The new Board Room

Just after adding the new veranda, you will recall that we renovated the adjacent Orangery with new flooring and a redecoration. Both course facing additions have, not surprisingly,  proven to be well received.  So much so that we have added a new radiator to the Orangery and reconsidered the usage of the poorly used pot wash area (as it was too far from the kitchen to be practical).  We are now completing the conversion of this area into the 'Board Room'.  We have already had a lot of interest in this room to be used for business / conferences as well as private dining, overlooking the course.  It is not quite finished but the picture below will hopefully provide a good idea of what we will have created.  The flooring will match the Orangery.

Additionally, we have moved our second coffee station into the Orangery to enable a faster self service solution for conferences in the Orangery / Board Room, freeing up staff time.

This renovation also enabled us to tidy the area as you leave the course.  New paving has been laid around this area to stop it becoming such a mud bath.

The adjacent shed has also been renovated to enable storage of a range of items which would otherwise clutter the clubhouse.

A second skip has arrived and Luke / Sarah will be ensuring that all the unwanted items are placed in it to keep the area as tidy as possible whilst the work is being finalised.

Phase 3: The New Bin Tidy:

A new area has been created to hold all of the bins in a confined area with easy access for staff and collectors.  This will stop bins cluttering the car park.  This is nearing completion with just the water grate at the bottom to be finalised.  This will enable us to keep this area clean and tidy.

Phase 4: The new Shoe and Trolley Cleaning Area

The first of the bays has now been free'd up to become the new shoe and trolley cleaning area. It will have appropriate space for people to scrape mud into removable 'mud buckets' as well as to use a new compressor gun to finish the cleaning of shoes and trolleys.  More to follow on this but completion is March.

Phase 5: Path outside kitchen

The path at the back of the clubhouse often gets muddy and flooded.  We will be relaying some of the sunken slabs and improving the drainage in this area. Target date April.

Once again, apologies for the unforeseen delays in completing this work and rest assured that we are moving as fast as we can to complete the renovations which will be of benefit to everyone at the club.

Updates on other areas beyond the buggy sheds will be provided by the Greenkeeping team in due course.

Princes Suite - new blinds, window glass and a large projector screen to come...

New Board Room - electrics finished - just flooring to be finalised

New storage shed shelving for Bulk items which would otherwise clutter the Clubhouse (NB crockery will move to new potwash area)

New paving to stop the area becoming a mud trap

New bin area complete with grate to enable easy cleaning of the area. Water drainage pipe goes under ground.

Hello Ladies

Well at least we got some golf played in February and details of results are given below.  However, first of all we must mention that it was a very sad month for two of our lady golfers, Joan Ramsey and Val Bate, whose husbands both passed away during February.  Our thoughts and sincerest condolences are with them and their families.

Club Captain March Update

MARCH 2023 - CAPTAINS COMMUNICATION NUMBER 3

GENERALLY

I’m pleased to say that the promised weather improvement did materialise, and we have been able to get back to some competitive golf on the full greens. Let’s hope this continues throughout the remainder of the winter months and we can also get on to the main tees soon.

CLUB CALENDAR – MARCH 2023

I attach the current MARCH 2023 Club Calendar. As you will see March is a very busy month with the re-start of Senior CBL matches and the start of the Seniors friendly matches together with the main club CBL matches starting on 25th March, as well as of course all the ongoing men’s club competitions, and the ladies events.

If you wish to play in any of the competitions, then please simply follow the normal process for entry. Specifically, if you wish to be considered for Seniors CBL matches, please contact Steve Sargeant and for general Seniors friendly matches please contact Dick Pooley.

Also, we are proposing to hold the delayed Seniors Champion of Champions Trophy on Tuesday 28th March, depending on course conditions, for which a separate invite will be issued. There will still be a seniors roll up on the same day for those players who are not in the trophy event.

CHARITY QUIZ – 17th MARCH 2023

If you have not already done so and you wish to attend, please apply for your tickets for the Charity Quiz Night being held on 17th March. I attach a further copy of the poster.

SUMMER PAIRS AND SINGLES TOURNAMENTS

The entry lists for the Club and Seniors summer pairs and singles tournaments are posted in the changing room. If you wish to enter and have not already signed up, you need to do so on or before Sunday 26th March.

FEBRUARY MENS RESULTS

Congratulations to Mark Richards for his excellent win in the February Stableford with 39 points and to Sunil Soni for his great win with an incredible 46 points, in the Seniors Monthly Stableford.

COURSE UPDATE

The course overall is coming out of the winter months in pretty good condition, and I have been advised by Mark Tubb that he will be producing a greenkeepers update soon, highlighting the ongoing work particularly for the early spring period.

In this connection a number of us have offered our assistance in repairing/filling divots and helping to repair some of the badger damage. If you are interested in helping with these tasks, please let me know using my contact details.

COURSE ETIQUETTE

One of our targets this year is to continue to improve general course awareness and course etiquette. In this connection there is a small box of credit card sized handy cards on the bar at the club entitled PRGC ‘The 10 most important golf etiquette issues’ You may not agree these are the 10 most important but hopefully it is a good starter for 10! Please take your copy and hand them to your guests and always maintain personal good etiquette. Please spread the word that etiquette is important and hopefully this will help to keep our course in good condition and our play at an enjoyable and consistent level.

MIXED PAIRS SUMMER ‘ECLECTIC’ 2023

I will be separately issuing the details of the Mixed Pairs Summer Eclectic very soon. This will be the second year of this competition which proved successful last year when the winners were Liz France and Mike Smith. Please look out for communications relating to this.

COMMITTEE ASSISTANCE

I am pleased to advise that we have one new volunteering member who is potentially going to assist the Committee. However, we are still looking for further assistance and so if you are able to volunteer some of your time to help, please contact either Steve Sargeant or me for further information.

BRUCE LOOME – PGA PROFESSIONAL

We all want (and need!) to improve our golf and we are lucky to have the services of Bruce available. If you wish to use him, please use his contact details displayed in and around the club house or contact him via the clubhouse team.

I did say it was going to be longer, but I do hope you found it useful. Of course, if you should have any related comments and/or queries please feel free to contact me or any of the Committee Members, and we will do our best to assist you.

Stan Ramsey Condolence Messages…

We have started to receive some lovely messages about our Stan.  Please send any thoughts about Stan or messages of condolence to Contact Us and we will compile them for Joan and for a new section of the website we are creating to remember our members.

"Stan Ramsey; part of the bedrock on which our Club was formed. His sense of responsibility, and his strength of character is unlikely to be matched. Without the energy and integrity of people like Stan we might have been a golf course - but we wouldn't have become a Club. We owe him a great deal."

Brian Fowler

RIP Stan Ramsey – great Toff, great friend

It is with great sadness that we must announce the passing of Stan Ramsey.  Stan was PRGC to the core; an absolute gentleman, funny and always generous with his time.  We loved Stan and offer our deepest condolences to Joan and the family.  What an innings though! and on his 90th birthday, cool as a cucumber, he smashed the ball, straight as a dye, down the middle of the first - that's our Stan - absolute legend!
And its not that easy to avoid the hedges when everyone is watching - as ex-Captain Craig, pictured with Stan, will testify 🙂

RIP Stan

FEBRUARY NEWSLETTER FROM YOUR LADIES COMMITTEE

Hello Ladies

I am afraid there is very little to report regarding golf during January, as every competition planned had to be cancelled due to the weather and playing conditions.  The forecast for February does look better and hopefully we will again be back on the greens.  The Winter Stableford scheduled to be played in January has now been moved to February. We were, however, able to hold the re-arranged Turkey Trot lunch on Wednesday, 18 January.  It was held in the refurbished Princes Suite and was a most enjoyable event.  As usual the food provided by Tricia and her team was excellent and the ladies were very impressed with the new Suite.

However, something to look forward to is a Charity Quiz Night on Friday, 17 March.  This is being organised by our Lady Captain and Vice-Captain, Jill and Sue, and they will be advising you of all the details in due course.  Cost per head will be £15 including food and prizes, with teams a maximum of 6 people.  PLEASE MAKE A NOTE IN YOUR DIARY.

The Ladies Golf Break in May has now been confirmed and will be held at the De Vere Wokefield Estate Golf Club.  This is being organised by our Social Secretaries, Melinda and Rosie.

The programme for February is now:

Wed 1         Winter Stableford **

Fri 3             Mixed Stableford

Sat 4            Winter Stableford **

Wed 8         Stableford **

Fri 10           Mixed Stableford

Sat 11          Stableford **

Fri 17           Mixed Stableford

Wed 22        Multiply Magic Competition

Attached is a revised Fixture List.

Ladies, we do hope you can enjoy some mud-free golf in February!

Club Captain – February Update

Good afternoon Fellow PRGC Members,
This is my second monthly communication to you all and I do hope you find it helpful.
Unfortunately, the weather has most certainly been against us recently resulting in very little competitive golf in January.  The forecast for the next couple of weeks looks better so hopefully we will be able to play on the greens again soon.
I attach the current February 2023 Club Diary.  As usual If you wish to play in any of the competitions then please simply follow the normal process for entry.
I want to specifically mention a future important addition to the calendar, and this is a Charity Quiz Night being held on the evening of Friday 17th March. It is being organised by Jill Peppett and Sue Pomeroy, our Ladies captain and vice-captain, The cost is £15 per head including food and prizes with teams up to a maximum of 6 people. I will be in touch again regarding this but in the meantime please put it in your diary and sort out your teams.
It is important I remind you that there are still some vacancies on your committee, where we need some assistance particularly with the role of Competition Secretary. This role lends itself to being organised into at least two sections and we are therefore looking for a couple of members to take on a portion of the role. If you want more information about this, please contact either Steve Sargeant or me.
That’s all for now, but should you have any comments and/or queries please feel free to contact me or any of the Committee Members, and we will do our best to assist you.
Best wishes
Al
