Captain’s Mid Jan Update

PRGC Captains January 2025 Message.

Well, here we are in 2025, a New Year, with new challenges and maybe some New Year resolutions for some!

I hope everyone enjoyed the Christmas period with Family and Friends and is raring to get out and get those HCPs into single digits on the course!!!

Obviously, the main event before Christmas was the Florida Scramble and all the results went out with the regular PRGC online Newsletter.

Other Results:

November Friday Mixed Club Stableford was won by Gordon Wilkins with 39 points.

Seniors December Monthly Club Stableford was won by Chris Thorne with 39 points.

December Friday Mixed Club Stableford was won by Mike Smith with 35 points.

Mens December Club Stableford was won by Toby Casella with 35 points.

Well done to all the Winners and competitors.

Forthcoming Events.

Obviously the weather is going to be playing havoc with January competitions, with both mats and temporary greens in use, but we hope the following will take place:

Tuesday 14th Jan. Seniors Monthly Club Stableford and Cheque Presentation to Captains Charity O C F representative, (around 12 noon) All welcome.

Friday 17th Jan. Mixed Club Stableford.

Saturday 25th Jan. Club Stableford.

Main Committee Meeting - Monday 13th January.

Refurbished Golf Balls.

Our Lady Captain, Liz France has asked me to thank everyone who donated all their old and used golf balls to hers and mine charities. The first tranche resulted in a payment of over £90.00 which will be divided between the two. She will start collecting again this month, so please dig deep into your sheds and garages for as many as you can find.

Club Pro Shop.

After his Christmas break (playing some golf with Bruce in Thailand) our very own Luke Viney is back involved with selling all things golf.

Mens Away Trip 6th/7th/8th May 2025.

I am pleased to report that we now have 31 deposits paid with one more pending, so that will be a "full house" for our visit to Draycotes Hotel & Whitefield GC.  {Some prizes will be sponsored by a prestigious former Captain!}

Social.

Possible Ladies section event in March. Watch out for more information.

Enjoy your golf and I look forward to seeing both old and new members on the course or in the Clubhouse.

  • if you happen to see me adjusting my undergarments on the course, I'm not about to expose my body, but refitting my Liz! (Truss that is!)

‘Tee’ Break – Quick Heads Up from Jack…

Further to the November update - during the heavy rains we have been resting and carrying out some essential repairs to the main tees.

Thank you for your patience with this, we are lucky to be one of the few courses able to do this due to our recently opened Brown (mats to mains) winter course.

The greenkeeping team will be rotating between mats and main tees throughout the winter period dependant on the weather conditions.  The 6th tee will be receiving some additional drainage to help bring it back into play at the earliest opportunity.

When the main tees are open we would ask that you always use a tee and repair any damage using the seed and soil boxes provided.

Thank you once again for your patience

P R GC - December Newsletter from The Lady Captain

As you can see by the date above, we have already had Christmas Day and Boxing Day and I hope you all had a wonderful time with family and friends. I am sure you will all agree too, that we have also had a good month of golf and attended some well organised social events here at PRGC. My thanks go to Sarah and her staff at front of house, Tricia and her staff in the kitchen and Jack and his staff for keeping the course in such good condition, considering the wet weather they have had to contend with. Thank you all on behalf of the Ladies Section

Wed 4th Dec    We played the midweek Stableford. This was our first morning teeing off at 10am. It was considered a success overall as the temperature had warmed considerably and it was a pleasant morning weather wise. The winner with a very good score of 45 points was Sylvia Clark. The runner up was Fiona Coogan with 34 points. Well played both ladies!

Wed11th Dec    Annual Turkey Trot Competition. We had a halfway house with mulled wine etc, organised and served by Sarah and Luke. After the golf, we had a traditional roast lunch with all the trimmings. Polly Allen organised a guess the weight of the cake competition and we had a raffle for a turkey voucher. These were won by Jill Peppett and Anne Ward respectively. We had a slight hiccup with the system when entering our score cards but eventually the results came in as 1st Sylvia Clark with 30 points 2nd Jill Peppett with 29 Points and 3rd Jules Bendell with 28 Points Well done ladies.  Also thank you to all the participants, as due to illness only 2 members were unable to play. A fantastic turnout and I think a good time was had by all.

Wed 18th Dec     This was to be a Greensomes competition, but the entry numbers were very low, so we switched to our Winter Challenge competition. When we returned to the Clubhouse and drew the Raffle for the Annual Christmas Hamper, which was donated by Polly Allen and won by Carolyn Dowle. A huge thank you to Polly and congratulations to Carolyn.

Tues 24th Dec    Xmas Eve Florida Scramble. A mixed competition organised by the Club Captain, Al Bowyer and a few “helpers”.  This was for all Members and Guests. It was a large turnout with 61 people in total. The largest number of entrants anyone can remember!  The winners were Bird’s the Word and second Vice Capt.’s Team. The winning guest team was Xmas Hackers and Slackers.

That is all for 2024. I wish you all a very HAPPY AND HEALTHY NEW YEAR
