Captain’s Update October 24

PR GC  -  Captains Early October Message 2024.

Evening Everyone,

Results first this month, as we have obviously just completed the RyderHeim Cup on Saturday. (3 types of competition, over 6 holes of each)

Forty players took part with a shotgun start, enabling most of us to get round in a little over four hours.

The overall winners were "SODs 1" ie. Phil Sloan, Neil Martin, Steve Wagerfield and Tony Taylor with a gross score of 100 points.

The individual singles winner was James Kelly with 14 points.

The 4BBB pairs winners were Dave Orford and Doug Taylor with 15 points.

The foursome pairs winners were Steve Allen and Mark Barker with 14 points.

As usual the "one prize only" rule was in operation, so a really big "Well Done" to all the winners and also to those that came very close.

And of course our thanks to Al Bowyer for organising the whole competition, Sarah and Luke for the bar etc, our Catering team, and the hardworking Greenkeepers, who in spite of the weather managed to get the course in a really good condition. Thanks Jack, Chris and Tom.

The previous weekend was our Club Championship, the Barcilon Cup, held over two days. 34 Ladies and Gents competed for this prestigious trophy with winners in both genders.

Ladies winner was Christine Stevens, and Ladies Handicap Champion was Liz France.

Mens winner was Neil Martin with 156 points gross, just ahead of Luke Tubb.

Chris Thornhill was the Handicap Champion with 135 points nett, just ahead of Derek Gunning.

The division two hcp winner was Gary Tubb, just beating Mark Stinchcombe.

Again the "one prize only" rule was applied.

The last Seniors Friendly match against arch rivals Chartridge Park at home was won 4 - 2 on 19th September, which reversed the away loss, the previous week.

Other monthly results.

Sept. 6th. Friday Mixed Stableford was won by Alan Phippen, beating Barry Woledge by one point.

Sept. 7th. the Club Stableford was won by Alan Jackson with 38 points.

Sept. 10th. Seniors Monthly Medal White tees, won by Meron Jacyna with a nett 70, and Gold tees won by Pete Smith with a nett 68.

Sept. 20th. Mixed Monthly Club Stableford was won by Nick Fletcher with 43 points just ahead of John White.

The main Mens Club competitions are nearly complete with the Champions listed here:-

Mens Club Pairs Knockout was won by Alan Jackson and Dave Mackenzie, beating Dan Viney and Ewan Millar in the final.

Mens Scratch Singles was won by Alan Jackson beating Alastair Wardrop.

Mens Club Singles HCP k/out was won by Chris Thorne beating Graham Blackwell.

Mens Seniors Pairs k/out was won by Steve Williams and Mark Stinchcombe beating Steve Wagerfield and Tom Langton.

Thank you to all entrants and congratulations to all the winners.

Socials. On Friday 13th September, we held a very succesful Bingo Night and Buffet with over fifty people in attendance. Many different folk won prizes and a good night was enjoyed by all. Thanks again to Al Bowyer for the superb organisation. Both Ladies Captain and Mens Captain charities received £185.00, so many thanks.

New Patio Area now complete

Lovely job tidying up the patio area in front of the 9th green, looks fab! Great job, great value - thanks Al (Alan Jackson).

Sarah has already put it to great use with the new barbecue, supporting the Barcilon Club Championships 🙂

Enhanced Disabled Access

We have made disabled access to the club much more comfortable for visitors.  We are just finishing the area and have doubled the width of the path and protected it barriers.

Please do not park here unless you require disabled access.  This is a beautiful spot to visit and we wish to make it as accessible as possible.

Thank you
