Big week… for the greens!! 11.09.17

Evolution Micro Fertiliser

This fertiliser is specifically designed for September usage and will help to harden the turf against disease, whilst discouraging the spread of moss during the cold season.

It is a micro granular (0.5 - 1.7mm) compound fertiliser formulated specifically for use on fine turf allowing minimum disruption to play and maximum turf response.

You will no doubt have seen John and the agronomists with their chemistry sets checking the soil condition... this is the winning selection!

This application is followed by a double groom and cut on Friday morning and the first of the Fusarium treatments!  We are attacking this nasty disease much earlier than last year and will aggressively fight it across the autumn winter period.

Hold these dates in your diary…

Friday 15th September - Captain's Charity Day

Friday 18th August - Summer Madness Cross Country Golf

5 Great Reasons to Take Up Golf

Don't leave it too long to take up golf!

The Great Outdoors

Golf courses are designed to be beautiful, to take existing surroundings and amplify their glory. The net result? you escape the office, the TV and the sofa and replace them with fresh air and that wonderful feeling of being released. You feel alive and living rather than shackled or slouching.

Exercise

The joy of golf is that exercise is a by product. Whether you start with a buggy and do short walks between shots of carry a bag the full course - you will slowly but surely build your fitness. The fitter you get the better you feel, the better you feel, the better you play. So whether your motivation is to shed some weight or just feel better - golf could be the game for you.

Friendships

Lasting friendships can all start and grow out on the golf course. Very quickly, people meet other golfers who share a common interest and a camaraderie develops both on the course and into the clubhouse. We often have single players visiting the club on their own. It isn't long however before a conversation strikes up in the clubhouse and a door is opening to a new friendship.

Family Bonding

Golf is a game to introduce your partner and kids to. It's an amazing opportunity to 'play the course' together as a couple or a family. Playing a simple Texas Scramble means that you all get to play and enjoy the game together, no matter how good you are. Find out more...

Challenge

Each time you play is a fresh challenge. Whether you are playing the course, a friend or in a match; golf is as competitive as you want it to be. Everyone finds a balance of social and competitive golf that suits them.

Business

Golf is the perfect setting for business. It changes the mood from 'across the table' to a more relaxed sharing of ideas over a 2 to 4 hour timespan - not to mention the conversation over a drink or meal afterwards.

... but whatever your reason to give golf a try - don't leave it too late 🙂

How to do business on the golf course – 10 winning tips

Golf isn’t just a wonderful way to make friends and get fit! Building business relationships and closing sales on the golf course is now common practice. So here’s a few tips to do it a little better!

(1) Choose the right Venue

No matter how good they are at golf, choose a course that is easy on the knees and allows their morale to stay high. A course which is too tight, too hilly or too long is a business killer. It will create frustration and diminish your chances of doing business. So pick a course you know they will all enjoy, and consider;
* can we break or stop after 9 holes for refreshments?
* are there beautiful views to help them relax and enjoy the moment?

(2) Create a positive association between you / your business and the club

Consider sponsoring one of the holes or getting the club to put a “Welcome to xxx” at the Golf Club reception

(3) Always pay for their round

It tells them that you value their company and their business. Consider a Corporate Sponsorship Package that makes this more affordable.

(4) Follow Their Lead

* Encourage your guest to choose how the match should be played; Stableford, with or without handicap, Texas Scramble – whatever makes them happy. Remember, be accommodating rather than overly competitive.
* Choose a quiet day on the course and let your guest guide the pace of play.  Don’t let them feel panicked or rushed.  If you are holding up other golfers then let them play through.
* If they are generous with a ‘gimmie’ or make a mistake – go with the flow – this is not a PGA Tour!

(5) There is a time and a place to talk business

Always let your guest be the one to bring up business – they know why they are there!  Remember, you invited them for a round of golf, not to suffer a captive sales pitch.
Be engaging and ask them questions.  Encourage them to talk about themselves and their business – you are making a bond… ‘tell me about that competition you won… about your kids, are they golfers? etc’ This kind of small talk helps people to relax and enjoy the game and your company.

(6) Respect the course

Always be very careful to repair your divots and ball marks.  Being responsible tells them something about your nature. You will be equally respectful within your business relationship.

(7) Don’t cheat! or get angry!

Generating business is all about building trust and the quickest way to ruin your image is to get caught cheating.  If you are having a bad day – don’t let it effect your playing partner. Smile – don’t cheat!

(8) Follow the Dress Code

Make sure that you respect the golf course dress code.  You wouldn’t show up to a business meeting looking scruffy – so keep that in mind when showing up to the course.

(9) Create a positive Memory of Yourself

Always have a business card in your wallet and/or golf bag.  A “leave behind” to remind that person of you is a great way for them to remember you. Even better, purchase some golf tees, or golf balls with your company’s name on them, give a few to your guests before or after the round.

(10) Enjoy yourself

The above tips will help you look professional. What your guest also wants is to have enjoyed the course and your company. They accepted the round of Golf, because it was supposed to be enjoyable.  So loosen up, enjoy the day and help your partner to do the same.

Like golf – doing business on the course takes practice..we hope these tips will help!!

Golf Range Vs Golf Cage

Golf Range Vs Golf Cage

Golf Ranges and Golf Cages are Essential Practice Tools

Practice, Practice, Practice is the mantra of Bruce Loome (Class 'A' Professional). Working with Bruce, Princes Risborough Golf Club have developed a unique Short Game Academy Course. This 9 hole golf course is focused on helping you to practice the 9 'smart shots' to a better scorecard.

Practice, is about rehearsing and 'grooving in' the right disciplines rather than finding workarounds for the wrong ones.

So why use a Golf Cage or a Golf Range?

On a golf range you get to see the flight of the ball and where it lands. The problem is that you are using a golf range ball rather than your own.
With a golf cage, you are using your own ball, but get a more limited idea of the flight of the ball and where it lands.

So which is the best?

Well, in short they both have their place.

The big upside of the golf cage over the golf range is achieving the right sound and feel when connecting with 'your' golf ball.

When being coached a particular shot, a Class 'A' pro will ask you to hear and feel the shot as well as note its flight and reaction to landing.

So when trying to rehearse and 'groove in' those all important swing mechanics you will often see beginners, intermediate and experienced golfers taking the time to practice in golf cages. Watch for the smile on their face when they hear and feel the perfect shot. To a golfer who has received Class 'A'  coaching, it is as gratifying as watching the ball land in the right spot on a range or golf course.

So before a game and in between games, always try to find time to warm up muscles and 'groove in' your swing technique. Listen and feel that your shots are on point.

Also worthy of note - remember, a Golf Cage is normally free of charge whereas a golf range costs you hard earned money.

At Princes Risborough Golf Club, we encourage a learning culture. We recommend that no matter how good you are that you continue to improve your game through professional coaching. Please practice, practice, practice the right techniques. Learn to listen and to feel that you are making the right connection. If you practice the right techniques, you will get better - if you get better you will enjoy the game more - it is as simple as that!!

Princes Risborough Golf Course have a Golf Cage and welcome Members (and Green Fees) to use it Free of Charge.  Conditions apply however for playing the Short Game Academy Course which opens in May 2017 - please ask at reception.

Our Cage has undergone a full renovation and is available for usage during week commencing 13th February, 2017.  Practice, Practice, Practice!! But practice the right things!! 🙂 Please contact our Class 'A' Golf Pro to find out more.

Better Course Management…

Investing in a second set of mower blades means that we are able to have two people cutting the greens at the same time in peak growing season.  This means less disruption for golfers ie we can have all greens cut before play.  It also means that we have contingency if one of the machines is out of action.
