Jack (and the course)… loving the new investments…

Jack proudly showing off the new premium Ransoms Professional Turfcare rough mower - its already making a massive impact!   This is quite an investment and is incredibly versatile - it has universal cutting heights enabling it to flex to fairway height!

The club have also invested in a premium Toro ProCore aerator with huge capability to help transform the health of greens, tees - even fairways.  This amazing machine can aerate up to 10 inches deep and that can make all the difference.

Stuart Green, BIGGA’s head of member learning, explains why aeration is a vital tool for maintaining the health of golf greens.

To understand why aeration is critical to healthy turf, it is essential that the golfer understands that the roots of grass don’t grow in soil. They actually grow in the air spaces between the soil particles.

On putting greens, the aim is to move water away from the surface as quickly as possible. On soil greens, that can be quite difficult but the requirement is to keep the surface in contact with the sub surface.

That means aerating at all different depths. The more that can be done, the more effectively water can be moved away from the surface.

Keeping the surface dry has the benefits of better quality grass, reduction in disease and disorders, such as moss, and increased all year round playability.

What are the benefits of aeration?

  • Compaction relief and improved surface performance
  • Better penetration of water and air
  • Fertiliser/nutrients delivered into the root zone
  • Improves soil structure
  • Improves rooting capacity
  • Longer use of the surface – increased playability all year round
  • Releases toxic gases from the soil
  • Increases shoot growth

Short term the new machine will play a key role in Jack's expert plans to verti cut, solid tine (to 10 inches), top dress, feed and over seed.

For the winter, his process will combine with our chalk base to allow our greens to increase playability all year round.

Happy days and well done Jack and team!

Another beautiful wedding at the golf club- congratulations to Mr and Mrs Jones – E-Card holder Alex and his beautiful bride Samantha

So happy to meet up with Alex and Samantha the day after their wedding and to hear how happy they were with their special day.  They also had some photos taken at a new location - JT's Bridge on the 18th which they have promised to share. We simply love weddings at PRGC!

Great job by the team on the day - led brilliantly as always by Sarah, with great support from Luke, Mia and Jodie.  What a team!!

If you go down to the ponds today…

Jack is replenishing the ponds with some lovely new fish.  The grass carp will make a real difference to pond quality.   Others joining the community are Blue Orfe, Golden Tench and Golden Rudd.  So nice to see them back in both the 4th and the 18th.

Nice work Jack!

Did you know that you can now score as you go on your mobile – directly into Club V1? let’s save some time and sometrees!!

That's right, keep your scores on your mobile phone digital card - just as you would normally on a paper card.  The difference? it does the maths for you, you don't have to do the scores twice (once on your card and once on the terminal)...  and we lower our carbon footprint!

Luke - your Pro Shop manager is here to help and will be releasing a simple member training guide shortly.

This is a great initiative Luke - thank you and well done!

England Golf Review of PRGC SafeGolf and Communications

England Golf recently visited Princes Risborough Golf Club to discuss our SafeGolf and Communications.

We are delighted to say that we were awarded the SafeGolf accreditation and informed that on one particular issue, England Golf will be creating a new guidance based on PRGC's management approach.

England Golf  also made some very positive comments on our marketing and comms initiatives.  We believe we still have huge opportunities to finesse our approach, but good to know that we were amongst his very top clubs in performance.

A big thank you to Sarah and the main comms contributors - Sue Pomeroy, Al Bowyer, Dick Pooley and Bruce Loome.
