Sneak Preview of New Buggies – Arriving in circa 6 weeks!

Buggy News: More on the Way!

Demand for buggies has continued to grow—so much so that we've invested in two more! These little beauties are expected to arrive in around six weeks' time.

In preparation, Jack and the GK team have been hard at work on the course, continuing their buggy path programme, and making improvements in the car park to create space for the new arrivals.

We’re excited to expand our fleet and make your experience even better!

Car Park Update – Will Effect Monday Parking

ALERT - CAR PARK DISRUPTION THIS MONDAY -  PLEASE PARK CAREFULLY

Please note that there will be some disruption to car parking this Monday as we make planned enhancements to the car park.  We calculate that we will still have plenty of space for you to park, but please be  patient with the works going on.  Thank you.

Phase one:

Clear the rear of the car park along the metal fence to enable cars to park in front of it, all the way to the new warm up nets - complete

Outstanding work by Jack and team to complete this clearance without disruption to members - thank you!

Work will continue to improve the entrance area to the warm up nets and the area used to practise your short game.

Phase two:

Clear the foliage under the trees on the upper side of the car park - timing from Monday 18th August - please use new space now cleared along the back fence to park

Phase three:

Building new corner shed in dead space in corner of car park - freeing space in the buggy sheds - over next 4-6 weeks

Phase four:

New buggies arrive in circa 6 weeks and no new car park space will be required to house them

Increasing the size and efficiency of the car park is incredibly important for the convenience of our growing membership.  More car park updates / initiatives to follow over the next few weeks...

Phase 1: New Car Parking Spaces Now Available Along Newly Cleared Back Fence

Phase 2: Clearing Foliage and Widening Car Park

Phase 3: Optimising Corner Space for Storage

You Said – We Did

Further to our note on the importance of using the Customer Service Book - we promised some examples of action taken against these comments...

We will provide further You Said - We Did examples through the year.

You Said: Please improve the steps on the 18th - they are getting to be unsafe

We Did:  The Greenkeeping Team have made them safe - including a new railing

You Said: Please improve the bunkers and the bunker practising area

We Did:  The Greenkeeping Team have renovated the bunker on the academy area enabling you a choice of two bunkers now - one materially more challenging than the other 🙂

Importantly the GK team have a bunker improvement programme and will be tackling a number of heavy use bunkers over the next few weeks and months

Some additions to the Out of Hours Menu…

Out of Hours Menu – A Growing Favourite!

We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to refine our Out of Hours Menu — the tasty options available when Trish finishes at 2pm (Wednesday to Sunday), or on Mondays and Tuesdays when she’s not at the club.

Thanks to your feedback and our team’s creativity, the menu is evolving beautifully:

Regular Out of Hours Menu

A reliable selection of light bites and favourites to keep you fuelled after hours including...

  • New Toasties: We’ve all enjoyed the tasting sessions — they’re absolutely fab!

Extended Offer (e.g. WAGS )

We add a little extra sparkle for special occasions like WAGS including...

  • Barbecue Menu for Sunny Days: Not listed on the regular menu, but WAGS attendees know the secret — including our amazing steak offer that’s become a bit of a favourite!

Using the Customer Service Book…

Dear Members,

As you know, we pride ourselves on being a member-centric club and truly value your feedback—whether it’s positive reinforcement or constructive suggestions for improvement.

The Customer Service Book, located in the clubhouse, has proven to be a valuable tool for highlighting both immediate concerns and longer-term opportunities. It helps us respond quickly and thoughtfully to the things that matter most to you.

To ensure consistency and clarity, we kindly ask that any issues be recorded directly in the book. Please write your message in the manner you would appreciate receiving it yourself. If further explanation is needed, feel free to speak with a member of the clubhouse team—they’ll be happy to add notes to your entry to ensure your point is clearly understood.

There’s no need to record the same issue more than once. If a matter has already been raised and is in progress, we’ll let you know.

We’re also introducing a “You Said, We Did” update to keep you informed about the progress we’ve made on key issues raised by members. Your voice helps shape the club, and we’re committed to keeping you in the loop.

Thank you so much

Shining a Light on Roll Up Leaders

Ex Captain Brian Fowler Presents the Fowler Bowl

Wonderful to catch up with Brian Fowler - ex Captain and Club Ambassador.   What an amazing contribution Brian made to the club, pioneering the 19+ handicap competition to encourage the higher handicappers to compete and ushering in an array of improvements for new members joining the club.  Here he is presenting his trophy to Bob Carter - the 2025 winner of the Fowler Bowl. Well done Bob!

A note from John White, leader of the Friday Stableford...

'So - First, and winner of the Fowler Bowl was Bob Carter (HC26) with 37 points £13, 2nd Steve Williams (HC26) with 36 points £11 and 3rd Chris Thorne (HC8) also with 36 points £9.

The Front 9 was won by Jack Riley (HC29) with 20 points and the Back 9 Alan Phippen (HC30) with 19 points – both winning £6.  Well done all.

Liz France Recognised by England Golf for 30+ Competition

Congratulations to Liz France for being recognised by England Golf for the innovative 30+ friendlies and new multi club competition.  The award was presented by ex Captain Sue Pomeroy in her role as County Rep for the Ladies section.

RAGS Away Day at Springs…

Fellow RAGS,

21 members gathered at The Springs for our usual bacon baps at 10.00 am before venturing onto the course at 11.00 am.

The forecasted heavy rain never materialised and was replaced by one or two sporadic light showers insufficient for most players to bother with waterproofs. Springs is always well maintained and yesterday was no exception. However, the length of the course proved a challenge for most players with the average scores being lower than usual.  This emphasises the importance of playing a variety of courses to stretch one’s ability.  Nevertheless, typically, some will always have their day and rise to the top.

The immediate past captain was asked to present the awards.

Results:

Overall winner – Alan Pugh with 31 points winning £20 and taking the RAGS trophy.

Ladies’ winner – Jill Peppett with 29 points won the ladies’ trophy and £15.

Winner – front 9 – John Stephenson with 18 points and £15.

Winner – back 9 – Mike Stenning with 17 points and £15.

Longest drive (Ladies) – Arlinda Chaplin winning £10

Longest drive (Men) – Mike Smiith winning £10

Nearest the pin – No one stayed on the green so the £10 was donated to charity.  The pro must have been having a bad day because he chose a testing hole for all players.

Thanks to everyone who took part and congratulations to all the winners.

The next, and final venue for this summer is at Studley Wood on the 22nd September and I look forward to seeing as many as possible there.  Please make a note of the date in your diary and the formal notice will be sent out shortly.

Best wishes,
John
