Ladies August Update

Happy August ladies and we hope that you are all enjoying the summer weather.  The course is looking beautiful and we know that many of you have found the opportunity to play in recent weeks.

The global pandemic continues to influence arrangements at the Club but it has been good to see the Clubhouse begin to function again.  No news yet on when the locker rooms will reopen but in the summer months it isn’t too much of a hardship to change our shoes in the car park.  Please keep an eye on the website where any updates will be shown.

The course itself is busy and is being maintained to a very high standard.  You will have noticed that there are various alterations underway, most notably the improvements on the 18th.  Although this isn’t yet in play it is easy to see that the plans will give us an interesting new hole and the fun of avoiding a new water hazard!  You may also have spotted blue tees appearing.  These are on trial targeting veterans who have lost a little distance over time, younger juniors and newbies to the game, and sit between the reds and the yellows.   And the additional parking is also a welcome improvement.

On the golfing front, July has seen the resumption of our monthly Qualifiers and we are pleased to report the following results:

July Stableford – Christine Stevens with 32 points

Summer Stableford  - Jill Peppett with 32 points

This month’s calendar is:

Saturday 8 August – Monthly Stableford (yellow tees)

Wednesday 12 August – Monthly Stableford (red tees)

Wednesday 19 August – The Sullivan Cup

Wednesday 26 August – The Grannies Cup

Please remember that you should book your own tee time for the Monthly Stableford, and expect more news from Jacqui Taylor about The Sullivan and The Grannies Cups in due course.

Don’t forget that The Barcilon, our Club Championship, which has been delayed this year due to COVID-19, will be played on Saturday 12th/Sunday 13th September.  Watch out for more information about this in the coming weeks.

Our knockout competitions are well underway.  If you are playing in the Ladies Singles, Ladies Summer Pairs or The Hutley Cup you should be aware of the draw.  Please advise Jacqui of the results of any matches.

For all competitions, don’t forget to pay your entry fee by BACS to the Princes Risborough Ladies account and to advise Jacqui of the results of your matches.

Last month we were able to report that there were a number of new lady members and more have joined in the last few weeks.  It is great to see our numbers increase and we extend a warm welcome to all those who have recently joined.  For our longer term ladies, please keep an eye out for new faces and say hello, and if you are a new member, please don’t be shy.  Although we are operating a fully booked tee time system since lockdown, you will usually find ladies playing on Monday and Wednesday mornings.  If you’d like to meet others, please get in touch with any member of the Committee – we will all be pleased to make the necessary introductions.  If you have a current handicap then you are most welcome to take part in our competitions.  If you don’t have a handicap yet, then we are happy to help you get into the system.

And speaking of the handicap system, you will all be aware that there are changes afoot.  The new World Handicap System is being launched from 1st November 2020 and this will have an impact on us all.  Over the coming months the Main Committee will be working to make sure the transition is as smooth as possible.  There is nothing for individuals to do at the moment, but please watch out for news.

Of course, golf isn’t quite the same as it used to be, what with leaving the pins in and not raking the bunkers but everyone seems to have adjusted well and it really is great to be enjoying our beautiful course.  What we must remember though is the England Golf mantra – PLAY SAFE and STAY SAFE – and enjoy your time out there.
