SEPTEMBER Schedule

THE WINNERS CIRCLE

THE NINE HOLE CHAMPIONSHIP

Many congratulations to Richard Aldridge who was the only player to beat par over the black course with 19 points.

CAPTAINS TROPHY

As we all know, Pete Smith was this years’ winner with a startling 45 points!!

MEN’S SUMMER PAIRS

New names on the board with Mike Smith and Steve Tucker winning their first board competition with another 45-point haul!!

COMPETITIVE MATCHES

  • CHILTERN BREAKFAST LEAGUE

Our team lost a very tight match away at Stocks on 20th August 4:2. All the games were very close so another good performance. The team have back to back matches with Shendish Manor in September and need to win them both to progress to the play offs for the second year running. Good luck to the team in these upcoming matches.

  • SENIORS MATCHES

Our unbeaten run came to an end away at Whiteleaf and then again at Waterstock. Good competitive matches both but we cannot win them all!! Tragically after all these weeks without rain, the first day it did rain we had our home match with Waterstock and guess what, the greens were flooded! In the end the match was called off which was a great shame for all involved.

This is team competition in teams of 4 and we will revert to the traditional format which is as follows:

  • Coffee on arrival
  • 0930: shot gun start for 9 holes of 4BBB
  • 1130: break for a light lunch
  • 1230: shot gun start for 9 holes of foursomes followed by 9 holes of individual
  • 1630: buffet and refreshments
  • 1700: presentations

The flier will be published shortly and the team sign up sheet will be in the bar area. Please get your teams organised and sign up as soon as possible.

The two previous events (separated by Covid) have both been won by the Sunday Strollers: Roger Meakes/Alan Nunn/Sean Cummins/Mark Tubb and I have no doubt they will want to defend the trophy with vigour!! It is time for other teams to mount a BIG challenge for the treasured gold trophy and the prizes.

ITN NEWS FLASH-AND FINALLY-THE WHIFFER!!!!!!!

It has come to my attention that some of our newer members may not be familiar with the golf term “whiffer” aka an Air Shot!! For clarity:

  • An air shot occurs where you address the ball, take a swing and, yes, MISS the ball completely.
  • In these circumstances that “air shot” is counted as a shot and goes against the card.
  • If you appear to have addressed the ball, you cannot then declare the air shot a “practice” shot.
  • If you are a marker and you consider the player has addressed the ball and then played a whiffer you MUST count the shot on the card
  • Practice swings should always be taken well away from where the ball lies. In that way there can be no doubt as to whether it was a “whiffer” and you will also avoid the double penalty of improving your lie.

You should note that the marker can refuse to sign a card if he/she feels a whiffer has been incurred and the player disagrees. In that case the card is void.
