Please find attached the full results schedule for the Seniors Championship held yesterday 01 October. A great turn out and some excellent golf played on what was a perfect autumnal day for golf-says he, looking out of the window this Friday morning, at lashings of rain!!
The Seniors Cup and Championship was hotly contested with six players on net level par or better. Craig Whitworth (net 66) and Paul Gerrard (net 65) both had excellent rounds and Steve Sargeant must have thought he had won the day with brilliant net 63. Our winner on the day was, however, Geoff Barrett with a truly outstanding net 62! Once again he is our Seniors Champion having last won the competition in 2017. Like fine wine (or is that Newcastle Brown?) he is maturing with age although next year his handicap may not be quite the same!!
The Seniors Plate, played off the yellow tees for our more venerable members was also hotly contested although no players managed to get inside their handicaps. MIke Pool produced a typically dogged never give in round to finish with a net 71 and runners up spot. The winner this year was however a debutant playing in only his second major event at the club. Dennis Vinall, with a net 69, was the winner and therefore the Plate Champion 2020
We were able to make the presentation on the day to Geoff Barrett although he had to hand the main trophy back to Mark Tubb (the defending Champion) for engraving-for 2018 and 2019 as well as 2020!! In due course Geoff will receive the main cup and will no doubt bring it back next year when he mounts his defence.
My thanks to all those who took part and competed on the day. We all had a great day and I know those at the wrong end of the table will return to fight another day. Hopefully next year we can return to the post tournament lunch which, in the past, has been a great feature of this event.
Best wishes
