Some interesting facts about Daisies...
1 Daisies are found everywhere on Earth except Antarctica
2 The name 'daisy' is thought to come from the Old English 'daes eag'.
'Daes eag' is thought to mean 'day's eye', after the way in which it opens at dawn.
3 Daisies have lots of medicinal properties and their leaves are edible!
Daisies are thought to slow bleeding, relieve indigestion and ease coughs. In homeopathy, the garden daisy is known as the gardener's friend for its ability to ease an aching back. Daisy leaves can also make a tasty addition to salads (they're closely related to artichoke and are high in Vitamin C).
4 If not controlled, some daisies can become serious weeds
This is because they are resistant to most bugs and pesticides.
5. More importantly, Golfers hate them
Along with a wide range of other unwanted wide leaf flowers and weeds on our fairways - it is time to say goodbye to Miss Daisy.
ACTION BEING TAKEN
This Wednesday and Monday April 3rd, we will be spraying the fairways with a top of the range herbicide. We will leave the fairways for a couple of days to allow the herbicide to take effect before cutting. Please excuse therefore what might appear to be slightly longer than normal fairways for a few days before we get stuck into some serious Spring mowing!
