New Glass Recycling

Purpose:

To ensure all staff and users of the bins understand the correct waste procedures

Problem:

  1. We have been fined for contaminating the cardboard Biffa bin with incorrect waste
  2. Our bins are often overflowing
  3. We lost our glass recycling opportunity some years ago and with that the opportunity to max our environmental efficiency

Solution:

  1. We have already issued new instructions that only card board is to go into the recycling bin
  2.  2 and 3 are solved at the same time.  We will take delivery of 4 residential size bins for glass only (no bin liners). We will have a 3rd pick up during the week for the glass

Benefits:

  1. No more fines
  2. More bin capacity so no more bins overflowing
  3. Separating glass is more environmentally friendly

Immediate action:

With immediate effect, collect glass behind the bar separately from other waste - 0% contamination - glass only. Store the glass in bin liners in the old dog paddock until the new glass bins arrive next week. Then empty the glass into the new bins - no plastic bags.

Nick to ensure that all people living on site are briefed.
