Mens May 2021 Update

Princes Risborough Golf Club
MAY UPDATE 2021 - OUT OF LOCKDOWN!

Well, we are back playing golf. The three-month winter lockdown did seem to go
on forever but hopefully that is behind us and we can enjoy our golf albeit in
strange and different circumstances. We must all continue to be vigilant so please
remember that Play safe: Stay safe is still the mantra.
Sarah will keep us updated as we progress out of lockdown and the gradual release
of the Clubhouse / provision of food and beverage so look out for the advice
from Sarah.

COURSE UPDATE

We have had little rain and plenty of frost so the course is dry and paying linksy
somewhat earlier than usual. With little rain, recovery from the badger incursions
will take longer to sort out so relief will be in place for some time yet.
The re-opening of our original 18th tee will take longer than planned due to the
need to finalise the safety protocols when mixing the tees. In due course Mark
will advise us when this new tee will go live and what the safety protocols will be.

CLUB KNOCK OUT COMPETITIONS 2021

The draws have been made and players notified so all six competitions are up and
running. Please remember to advise Barry Woledge of the results of each match.

THE SPRING STABLEFORD

Having successfully navigated the restart of golf and complied with all the Covid
protocols I guess it was SODS law that our first Board event of the year would be
struck by an entirely different Gremlin!! As those who intended to play in the
event on Friday 16th April will testify, they were met not with frost on the course
but Ice on some greens, even including the temporaries. We had experienced an
overnight water system malfunction which led to flooding
and the low air temperature caused the water to freeze. OK for Torvill and Dean
or Wayne Gretzky but no good for golfers!! As a significant number of players
could not enter the competition, we have decided to abandon it as a board event
and replay it on Friday 07 and Saturday 08 May.
The original competition has been turned into a cash stableford event and Mark
Stinchcombe, our winner with 41 points will receive a cash prize and a “NOT the
Spring Stableford Trophy” for his efforts. Gavin Adams was runner up on 40
points with Gary Tubb in third place on 38 points. All will receive some cash.

THE NATIONAL PGA PRO AM QUALIFYING MEDAL

The cold weather must have had an impact on this event as only two players
broke net par! Steve Sargeant won with a net 66 and Harry Wagerfield was
runner up with a net 67. Third place was occupied by Rosie Brand, our top lady
with a net 70 just nudging the Seniors Captain Doug Taylor into 4th place on count
back. Steve will go forward to play with Bruce Loome in the regional qualifier at
Foxhills. If they win that they will be off to Antalya in Turkey for the Grand Finals.
As runner up, Harry is our reserve player for Foxhills.
Many thanks to all who played in this event and in particular our ladies for whom
this was a national PGA pro Am first.

GRANDADS CUP

45 members took part in this highlight of the golfing year competing for the
much-coveted Grandads Cup and of course the ubiquitous “Rocking Horse”: an
even more treasured prize!!
The Grandads Cup results are as follows:
• Winner: John Stephenson: 43 points
• Runner up: Brian Fowler: 42 points
• Third place: Dick Pooley: 40 points
• Top non-grandad: Steve Williams: 39 points
The Winner of the Rocking Horse: Brian Fowler (42 points plus 7 GC’s) = 49 points

COMPETITION CARDS and HDIDo Competition upload

Some helpful reminders:
• Markers must mark the card as per the PRGC sample card for the event
being played. The sample is on the website: Stableford, Medal or Bogey.
• Scores must be verified verbally at the conclusion of the round between
player and marker
• The card must then go in the competition box. Failure to do so will lead to
disqualification of the player from the competition. This has always been
the case but at the moment it is the marker has the big responsibility to get
this right!
• For those uploading their scores via HDIDo on the course please remember
to click on the APP, then click on Todays Golf, then click on the middle icon,
Score Entry. This is where you will find the competition and you can then
sign in.

PROTOCOL REMINDERS

I make no apologies for repeating:
• Play Safe: Stay safe: as before this is still in place until we are all notified
otherwise by Sarah.
• Card Completion: there is to be no swapping of cards and no self-marking.
You make up and mark the card of your partner and vice versa. And put it in
the appropriate box
• Bunkers: all are in play and relief is to pick, clean and place within 6 inches
within the bunker, no nearer the hole. In competition golf, please remember
to mark your ball BEFORE you move it
• Hole and Holed: the flag still stays in and the ball must be at rest in the hole.
• Stroke and Distances: in all competition golf our ruling is that any ball lost in
play will incur the stroke and distance penalty. Thus, if you fear you have
lost a ball after striking it you should declare and play a provisional ball from
the same spot. The alternative Stroke and Penalty (two shot penalty from
the point where the ball is thought to be lost) only applies in recreational
non-competition golf
• Brock Badger: he is back and we have several areas of severe damage. If
your ball lands in the badger scrapes, you should move your ball sideways to
the nearest point of relief and take a drop. There is no penalty incurred
• Temporary Greens: these will be in use on frosty mornings or where the
greenkeeping team believe it is necessary to protect the main greens from
damage. Please do NOT badger the staff to reopen the main greens on frosty
mornings. Reopening too soon is an invitation to long term damage which
we all want to avoid• Course management: if you observe any members or visitors not abiding by
our course protocols, please politely raise it with them and /or inform the
Club management as soon as possible so they can deal with the situation
quickly and easily
• Pitch Marks and Divots: Pease repair any pitch marks and divots you make
or find on the course. Failure to repair these promptly will result in long
term damage to the course so please repair them even if they are not yours

ALAN FOWLER

It is with much sadness that we have to report the passing of Alan Fowler from
our group. A really lovely bloke, great company, fun golfer and always wearing a
pair of shorts no matter the weather, he will be great loss to our community. He
was taken unwell on the course and our thanks to those members who helped
him at the scene and the local professionals and first responders who were on the
scene very quickly indeed.

Good luck to one and all.
STAY SAFE-PLAY SAFE.
