Princes Risborough Golf Club
JUNE UPDATE - OUT OF LOCKDOWN!
Well, we are back playing golf. Some of us have recovered our golfing form
quicker than others after the lockdown and the weather has been truly awful but
we are back playing golf. Let’s hope Midsummers’ day does indeed enable us to
return to normal both on the course and in the clubhouse.
COURSE UPDATE FROM MARK TUBB
“We have been one man down for some considerable time and this together with
COVID and the very unusual Spring weather has been a challenge for the
greenkeeping team.
We are hopefully taking on an apprentice and a couple of lads from a local school
to help over the summer months and this will give us some respite and allow us to
pick up speed on our programme of bunker improvement.
Any bunkers which are being worked on with new turf are to be considered fully
Ground Under Repair (GUR) for both sand and turf in casual and competitive
play. Please take full relief outwith the bunker no nearer the hole.
Full bunker play and allowable pin removal remains at the discretion of the UK
Government and the direction of England Golf. We will keep you updated as and
when we hear anything meaningful.
The formal opening of our much-improved original 18th hole layout will shortly go
live, initially with the yellow tee. The new white tee surface is not yet considered
fully playable and will open later. New safety protocols are in place. We will
continue with the use of Bells and clear signage as the most reliable safety
system. New signs will be going up shortly and new bells will be installed to help
speed of play.”

CLUB KNOCK OUT COMPETITIONS 2021
These are all up and running and plenty of matches have been played. The full
playing charts will be displayed in the dressing rooms as soon as they are open for
general use. Please remember to advise Barry Woledge of the results of each
match.
THE SPRING STABLEFORD
This saga continues as the second attempt to run the event on 07 and 08 May
failed due to the monsoon forecast for the Saturday. It is now planned for Friday
28th and Saturday 29th May so here’s hoping we are third time lucky.
THE MIKE JEFFERSON MEMORIAL TROPHY
We managed to complete this men’s bogey competition as planned on Friday 14
and Saturday 15 May. 34 members played in the event and only 4 managed to
beat net par on the day.
• Winner: Phil Sloan +2
• Runner Up: Jeff Hockley +1
• 3rd place: Dennis Mawby +1 (on count back)
• 4th Place: Richard Aldridge +1 (on count back)
Many congratulations to Phil who wins a board trophy and has his name on the
board in his maiden PRGC competition.
The ladies have asked if they can play in this competition in future years as most
of them also knew Mike as our very own “Mr Golf”. The WHS makes the
management of mixed competitions very much easier and in the spirit of
inclusiveness the committee will consider this request at their next meeting.
THE CHILTERN BREAKFAST LEAGUE
The men started the competitive CBL season with an away match at Richings Park
on Saturday 01 May. An unseasonably cold day on a course which had seen no water for
months and played like a frozen links provided some interesting
challenges. Our team, led for the first time by Steve Sargeant, were up to the
challenge and halved the match 3:3. That said, two of our matches were only lost
on the 18th, so we were tantalizingly close to that elusive away win but hey, a
halved match in the CBL is a great result. Now for the return at home on Saturday
05 June.

PROTOCOL REMINDERS
These are still difficult times so I make no apologies for repeating:•
Play Safe: Stay safe: as before this is still in place until we are all notified
otherwise by Gary Tubb
• Card Completion: there is to be no swapping of cards and no self-marking.
You make up and mark the card of your partner and vice versa. And put it in
the appropriate box
• Bunkers: all are in play and relief is to pick, clean and place within 6 inches
within the bunker, no nearer the hole. In competition golf, please remember
to mark your ball BEFORE you move it
• Hole and Holed: the flag still stays in and the ball must be at rest in the hole.
• Stroke and Distances: in all competition golf and where the card is being
uploaded to the WHS for handicap adjustment the ruling is that any ball lost
in play will incur the stroke and distance penalty. Thus, if you fear you have
lost a ball after striking it you should declare and play a provisional ball from
the same spot. The alternative Stroke and Penalty (two shot penalty from
the point where the ball is thought to be lost) only applies in recreational
golf where there is no upload for handicap adjustment
• Brock Badger: he is back and we have several areas of severe damage. If
your ball lands in the badger scrapes, you should move your ball sideways to
the nearest point of relief and take a drop. There is no penalty incurred
• Course management: if you observe any members or visitors not abiding by
our course protocols, please politely raise it with them and /or inform the
Club management as soon as possible so they can deal with the situation
quickly and easily
• Pitch Marks and Divots: Pease repair any pitch marks and divots you make
or find on the course. Failure to repair these promptly will result in long
term damage to the course so please repair them even if they are not yours
• White Competition Tee on Hole 14: a reminder to one and all that this
competition tee comes with a virtual out of bounds. Any TEE shot that
finishes on or beyond (including in the ponds!!)) the 15th Fairway will be
deemed out of bounds and a second ball must be played off the tee under a
penalty of 1 lost shot, so 3 off the tee. This Virtual OOB only applies to the
tee shot
