Consultants take Princes Risborough Golf Club greens to a new level…
As most of you will know, we have 3 key pillars to our strategy at PRGolfClub:
- To improve the course each and every year
- To encourage a culture of learning to help golfers maximise their enjoyment of the golf
- To provide the highest levels of customer service
With respect to improving the course, earlier this year I interviewed extensively for a consultant capable of a) developing your course to the next level and b) developing the greenkeeping team so that improvements are embedded into ongoing process. These consultants are at the top of their game, working on top courses such as Beaconsfield.
As part of the selection process, we tested their new ideas in the run up to the Club Championships and the results speak for themselves!!
Competition Secretary – “This is the best condition we have seen for years and years – well done”
Neil Terry – “the greens are 300% better – now we have a chance when we play away against the very top clubs, because our greens are just as good, just as fast and just as even”
Whiteleaf visitor – “you are starting to leave us behind – well done”
We will keep you posted on the appointment and any further developments.
In the meantime, the consultants all told us that we must encourage members to self police the following:
- Protect your greens – always repair your pitch marks and do not lean on your putter when you retrieve your ball from the holeWe have provided free pitch repairers at reception
- Protect your tees – always replace the divots, always use a Tee on holes 3 and 8All of the divot boxes are full of sand and seed
We purchased 20 tonnes of top grade sand to help bring on the tees

Ladies – June Update
Good afternoon ladies.
I’m ahead of schedule this month as there are some things happening at the beginning of June that I wanted to be sure you knew about. So here goes.
JUNE DIARY DATES
Mondays in June – Ladies Roll Up
The usual Monday arrangements will apply with ladies going out in arrival order, playing 9, 14 or 18 holes as mutually agreed. The home match against Chiltern Forest scheduled for 5 June has been postponed so there won’t be any pressure on start times that morning.
Saturday 3/Sunday 4 June
The Barcilon Cup
This event is the Club Championship, played over both days, and in addition to the main cups, ladies also play for The Dexter Trophies, sponsored by Valerie, and being in three sections (handicaps upto 21, 22-29, and 30-36). The event will close late on Sunday afternoon with a BBQ. The sign-up sheet will remain up on the noticeboard in the locker room until Wednesday 31 May. I do hope that there will be a good number of ladies taking part in this flagship event.

Lady Captain’s Day
This is an important day in our Ladies Section calendar. You will have the opportunity to play a Stableford round in the morning with prizes including nearest the pin and straightest drive, and then to come back to the clubhouse in the evening for a celebratory dinner and prize giving. Our social secretaries have already posted information about the dinner on the noticeboard and you can now sign up for the golf too. Please do take part in this event – it gives me a chance to say thank you to you all for your support and friendship during my year as Lady Captain.

TOFFS and Ladies Away Day – Huntswood Golf Course
These events are always good fun and I hope that plenty of ladies will be able to play. There are more details on the noticeboard where you’ll also find the sign-up sheet.
Wednesday 21 June
Midsummer Madness
This is a special event being organised by the Mens Section and taking place from 1500hrs on Midsummer’s Day. Teams of three will be playing the course in reverse order ‘across country’ and enjoying a BBQ in the evening. Guests are welcome to join in the fun but must play in a team with at least one member. More information will be available shortly.
NB: No ladies game will be organised in the morning on Wednesday 21 June as the green keepers will be preparing the course for the cross-country challenge.
Wednesday 28 June
Ladies Informal Morning
The game will be FEWEST PUTTS and the organiser will be Chris Hallett with the sign-up sheet being displayed for a week from Wednesday 14 June.
Summer Competitions
The Ladies Singles, Ladies Summer Pairs and the Hutley Cup are now well underway. Good luck if you have survived the early rounds, and please try to avoid scheduling matches for Wednesdays.
OTHER INFORMATION
The Wishlade Trophy
As most of you will know, the Wishlade Trophy scheduled to be played on Wednesday 17 May had to be cancelled due to appalling weather. The Committee have reviewed our golfing diary which is jam-packed full for the next couple of months and have decided that this competition will now be held on Wednesday 23 August. Hopefully the weather will be kind that day!
Ladies Golf Calendar
Beryl has updated our calendar, including the new date for The Wishlade, and you should find her email in your mailbox now.
Coaching Classes
Unfortunately insufficient ladies signed up for Bruce’s planned lesson on getting out of bunkers earlier in May so it had to be cancelled. It’s a real shame as I know that we all struggle getting out of the sand from time to time and Bruce’s tips are always a great help. Classes are an excellent way to learn new skills amongst a group of friends but naturally there is a minimum number for them to be viable. I hope that Bruce will be able to offer other similar opportunities in the months ahead and that the Ladies Section will be able to support them.
For now I look forward to seeing a lot of you at The Barcilon on 3/4 June and others later in the month at some of the other games we have scheduled.

Anti-Slip…
A big thank you for members highlighting the risk of slipping on the wet sleepers. As a result we are putting in place an anti slip solution later this week (w/c 22.05.17).
In the meantime however, whilst the sleepers are wet, we suggest taking great care when walking on them.
