Monday November 23rd – Parliamentary Debate on Re-Opening Golf Courses

The petition to exempt golf courses from the list of venues required to close during lockdown will be debated on November 23.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group for Golf (APPGG) had previously admitted defeat in its bid to keep courses open after writing to Boris Johnson on behalf of England Golf, the PGA, the R&A and other leading groups from the industry.

However, the petition, which has received more than 257,000 signatures, will now be debated in Westminster Hall, along with a similar one relating to gyms.

WHS Handicap Index – Data Migration to WHS

Just a short note to say that whilst for the vast majority of golfers the migration of their Congu handicap information to the World Handicap System has been successful, there have been some exceptions.

These issues have been escalated to Club Systems in the first instance and will then be followed up with England Golf.

We will keep those who have not transferred successfully informed as soon as we have some clarity.

Thank you for your patience

Support the Rotary Charity – New initiative promoted by Al Bowyer (Next Year’s Captain)

THE ROTARY CLUB OF PRINCES RISBOROUGH – FUNDRAISING INITIATIVE

Dear Members,

This is a personal email from me, Al Bowyer, this year’s Vice Captain and your Captain elect for 2021-22. I am also a member of the Rotary Club of Princes Risborough, where I am Treasurer.

During these most extreme and difficult times the P R Rotary Club’s fundraising activities have been severely restricted but nevertheless we have continued to raise money where possible and support many local charitable organisations, particularly those specifically requiring Covid-19 support.

In a further effort to raise additional funds a new P R Rotary initiative has been organised and this is the:

“Giro di Risborough”

This is when two Rotarians will be taking a challenging cycle ride of every avenue, street, lane, cul-de-sac, nook, cranny and hill of Princes Risborough. We don’t even know the precise distance they will cover until it has been completed!

Despite the current lockdown, the event will take place on 21 November and I am asking for your support to this event by way of sponsorship of whatever sum you are able to donate. As the saying goes 'every little counts', and assuming you are eligible we are also able to claim Gift Aid on your donations.

If you are able to contribute to this amazing event and help the charitable organisations that the P R Rotary Club support, please click on the following link or scan the QR code and follow the instructions.

Finally please be assured that every penny raised will be donated to charity. In this connection if you know of or are part of a local Covid-19 related charitable organisation, please let me know as it is possible that we may be able to provide some support.

Kind Regards
Keep Safe.
Al Bowyer

National golf course shut down between Thursday 5th and December 2nd, 2020

It is with huge regret and some shock that we must announce the temporary closure of all English Golf Clubs from this Thursday November 5th as part of the national lockdown. All tee bookings from (and including this Thursday), will regrettably need to be cancelled. We were hoping that the Government would make golf courses an exception to the lock down on physical and mental health grounds but the Government have just rejected a petition from over 250,000 golfers.

You will find the following updates in the Members section of the website:

  • Management Update - the letter written to the Government from England Golf challenging the decision to shut courses
  • Mens Update - Barry Woledge's November Update
  • Ladies Update - The ladies' committee update for November

We will of course keep you all fully updated on any changes - remember, last lock down, golf courses were re-opened early.
