Management Team Revenge? … Results of the first 9 Hole Championship at PRGC 03.08.18

PRGC mounted its first ever 9 hole championship on Friday 03 August. This was a unique event as it was played on a hybrid course combining the best of our front and back 9 holes off the white tees. For the first time ever hole 7 was followed by hole 17 and then on to hole 9 etc. The course was therefore a little different and challenging as with only 9 holes there was no scope error.

The event was open to all members and could be played at any time in the day to enable all the Friday “regulars” to play and all members who could manage a decent POETS day and get on the course in the afternoon.  In the event we had 20 participating players with great support from the TOFFS in particular and a number of other “drop in” players.

The result was a celebration for the Family Tubb with Mark on 21 points just pipping his dad John who scored 20 points. Dean Herritty was a highly creditable third with 19 points playing off a handicap of 4.  Quite what was said in the Family home after the event is anyone’s guess but we are all sure John was gracious in his support for Mark, allowing him to win like that!!

A great day was indeed had by all. Presentations will be made on Christmas Eve as is the norm these days.

  1. Somewhat late with my response and apologies for my tardiness.
First then must be thanks to Barry for organising the competition but my appreciation goes further. In my year as Captain I had said that I believed that we did not make all that we could of the fact that we are a nine-hole course and with the demands on so many, often younger, players’ time PRGC is the perfect venue to test the best. It, understandably, took time to turn wishes into action and with the workload that our Competitions Secretary has adopted and embraced on behalf of all Members to create and manage such a testing and enjoyable addition to our playing calendar in so short a time deserves our appreciation and support. We were asked after playing for feedback and I believe there were many constructive reviews. The consensus was that the Nine-Hole Championship should become an annual event without change to the course or format. Encourage then wherever we can active Members to participate and support all of the good work being undertaken to improve our golfing experience.
Well done organisers and participating Members. “PRGC – where friends meet to compete”.
