MEN’S and MIXED SUMMER KNOCK OUT COMPETITIONS 2022
Sign up is completed and the draws will be made tomorrow. All participants will be advised by email of their first-round opponents.
Last year we suffered lots of delays to matches and as result have still not completed the 2021 men’s singles handicap KO! In 2022, there will be NO extensions. Players must notify the match winner to Barry Woledge no later than the completion date for the round. Failure to do so means BOTH parties will be defaulted.

PGA NATIONAL Pro-Am CHAMPIONSHIP 2022
As in previous years we have entered this, the most prestigious Pro-Am competition in UK golf. We will be playing our domestic qualifying medal competition on Saturday 23rd July and the winner will play with Bruce Loome in a regional qualifying competition at Broadstone GC on Tuesday 13th September. Win that and our pair will be off to Antalya for the grand finals in November. This is a mixed event open to men and ladies with a maximum handicap index for men of 28 and ladies 36.
The entry system has changed and this year, and those members participating in our domestic qualifier on 23rd July, are required to sign up and pay their entry fee of £3 in advance directly to the PGA. Please see Bruce’s letter on the PRGC website with details and a link to the PGA website to enable you to sign up. If you plan to play in this event please do sign up as soon as you can.
In accordance with the rules of the tournament the playing order for our domestic qualifier will be mixed men and ladies playing in three balls and it will be a random draw. The regular Saturday events will be subsumed by this PGA qualifying competition on this day.
BUNKERS IN DEVELOPMENT
The new turf is still Ground Under Repair and out of play where the bunker is marked NT GUR. Please do not play off or stand on the new turf.
A ball in the sand must be played where it lies, unless you will touch the new turf with your stance or swing. In this case you must take full relief of one club length and are allowed to pick and drop in the sand but not nearer the hole. If In doubt please check with Mark Tubb or John Harvey.
New rakes are in place. Please rake the sand in bunkers after playing or walking in the sand to ensure all players enjoy the same playing conditions.
COMPETITION CARDS AND GENERAL PLAY CARDS SUBMITTED FOR HANDICAP
This is a final reminder. The new system is now well established and we are back to proper marking of cards so there are no reasons for cards to completed incorrectly. The card must always be marked by a member who has a full WHS handicap Index. The responsibility for the card being correct rests with the player who must check, agree and sign the card before entering into the system and posting the card in the box. The following MUST be clearly marked on the card:
- One Card per player or playing pair: no multiple entries on one card
- Enter the full competition name e.g., monthly medal, monthly stableford, Spring stableford etc. Out of competition cards submitted for handicap assessment must be described as general play. Casual play or Rule 19 is no longer a valid description and such cards will be not be processed
- Date and time the round was played
- Which course was used: currently white, yellow or red?
- Handicap index and the number of shots received on the day i.e., the playing handicap
- The name of the player as player A
- The markers name should be written against player B and legibly above the markers signature
- The players scores (gross shots) must be in column A
- The markers gross scores should be recorded in the marker’s column (on the left of the card) and not in column B
- Both marker and player MUST sign the card
- All entries must be fully legible and where individual scores are corrected, the old score should be erased and the correct score inserted
There is a model card for Medal, Stableford and Bogey golf on the web site. Portable plastic versions are available from Sarah for those who would like to keep one for reference.
Henceforth, players will be disqualified if cards are not completed correctly.
WINTER RULES
Winter rules and the need for hedgehog wheels will be removed from Friday 01 April. From thereon you play the ball where it lies, unless you are in Ground Under Repair (GUR) in which case you take full relief. If there are instances of heavy spring rain, the club may introduce hedgehog wheels at short notice so be prepared. If in doubt ask Sarah for advice.
