Welcome to back to golf after Lockdown 2. Although we now find ourselves living under a Tier 2 regime the course will be open from Wednesday 2 December, and you will all have seen the email from Club Management advising that the tee booking system has re-opened. We very much hope that as many ladies as possible will be out enjoying golf again between now and Christmas.
Our golfing programme for December has had to flex to meet the new circumstances and we have decided not to arrange any Wednesday morning ‘fun’ games between now and the end of the year. These will resume in January, but for December, and weather and other unforeseen events permitting, we plan a modest programme. Please remember that for any organised individual games you should check your course handicap for the day using your Handicap Index and the chart displayed on the Clubhouse wall, and after play you should enter your scores via the How Did I Do App and then leave your card in the ladies box on the windowsill in the Clubhouse reception area.
Wednesday 2 December – Ladies Informal Morning. Please organise your own game with one or two other ladies - this is a great opportunity to use the PRGC Lady Members WhatsApp Group to find playing partners. Tee times have been reserved for ladies from 0900, so get in touch with Sarah when she is back at the Clubhouse on Monday to arrange your start time.
Wednesday 9 December – The Turkey Trot. Under the current circumstances this will be a reduced affair – on the plus side fewer turkeys will suffer 😉. We will however be playing an eighteen hole Stableford off the reds, prizes will be awarded, and we hope that it will be possible to organise a halfway house. Watch out for information from Jacqui shortly.
Saturday 12/Sunday 13 December – December Weekend Stableford. Please book your own tee times and let Jacqui/Beryl know of your plans. Entry fee £3 to the PRGC Ladies Account please.
Wednesday 16 December – December Midweek Stableford. Tee times have been reserved from 0900 and can be booked via Sarah. As usual, please let Jacqui/Beryl know of your plans. Entry fee £3 to the PRGC Ladies Account.
Wednesday 23 December – Ladies Informal Morning. Please make arrangements for a game using the PRGC Lady Members WhatsApp Group and book a tee time from the ladies’ allocation via Sarah.
Thursday 24 December - Christmas Eve Florida Scramble. This event is organised by the Mens Section who welcome ladies and guests to join the annual challenge played in teams of four with an entry fee of £20 per team and prizes for the top three teams. Ladies play off the red tees. This is always a great way to start Christmas so if you’re interested please be in touch with Jill.
Wednesday 30 December – Ladies Informal Morning. No special arrangements are planned.
COURSE ETIQUETTE AND ADMIN
On the course:
- We’re now on winter rules which means that you may lift and clean your ball if it lands on the fairway. You should place your marker in front of the ball and then replace the ball within six inches of that spot, no nearer to the hole.
- In bunkers and under COVID regulations you may continue to mark, lift, clean and replace your ball within six inches, and no nearer to the hole.
- Please be careful not to wheel your trolleys over the winter greens. If you land on them or would have to stand on them to play your ball when they are not in use, you should move your ball to the nearest place of relief – no nearer to the hole.
- Brock the Badger and his friends are back and there are several areas of severe damage. If your ball lands in the badger scrapes, you should move it sideways to the nearest point of relief and take a drop. No penalty is incurred.
- Please remember to keep up the pace of your play. You should always be just behind the group in front, not just in front of the group behind! We’ve heard stories of some clubs introducing fines for those dropping back by more than a hole. We won’t be doing that (yet!), but it does make a good point.
Marking cards
... has become something of a contention. The practice that we are asking ladies to follow is in line with England Golf advice during COVID and is as follows:• You are Player A. You mark your own card putting your score in column A and your total in the bottom lefthand box.
- You are ‘shadowing’ one of the ladies you are playing with. She will be Player B and her information should be entered in column B.
- There should be no information in the column headed ‘marker’s score’.
- Don’t forget to sign your card!
We are aware that other parts of the club follow different conventions, but please follow this guidance if you are playing in a ladies game and submitting your score for handicap index purposes.
KNOCKOUT COMPETITIONS
A number of you signed up for the Ladies Winter Pairs and you can expect to hear from Jacqui shortly with details of your playing partner and the match schedule. Now that we are all playing with a Handicap Index working out Greensomes Handicaps is a little bit more complicated, but you will all be given your starting pairs handicap and details of how to recalculate if there are any changes before matches are played.
LADIES CHARITY
We’d like to say a big thank you to all those who bought Florence Nightingale Hospice Christmas cards just before Lockdown 2. Your support has given us a good start to our fundraising for this worthy charity, and there’s still time to Guess the Weight of the Christmas Cake! This is a great way to win one of Polly Allen’s beautifully decorated cakes and all you have to do is guess how much this year’s delight weighs. It’s £5 per entry. Just text Polly with your guess at the weight before Tuesday 8 December and transfer your donation to the PRGC Ladies Fund. Everything raised will go to support Florence Nightingale Hospice. The winner will be announced on Turkey Trot Day.
We very much hope that despite the constraints on meeting up we will see all of you at the Club sometime over the coming month. But if that doesn’t happen, we would like to wish you and all those near and dear to you a Very Happy Christmas. We will all be glad to see the back of 2020, but here’s to a more ‘normal’ 2021!
PLAY SAFE and STAY SAFE
