Men’s September 2020 Update

Princes Risborough Golf Club

Men’s Competition Update: September 2020

INTRODUCTION

Thankfully we have been able to continue with our golf at Princes Risborough and have seen a significant upturn in those participating in competition and general golf. As before we are by no means out of the woods yet with regard to Covid 19 so I make no apologies for once again repeating the essential Play Safe: Stay Safe mantra of Golf England. It is essential we all follow these guidelines no matter how tedious it may seem. It is essential for test and trace that we all continue with the discipline of booked tee times through the web site or direct with Sarah.

AUGUST COMPETITION RESULTS

Our competitions have continued and we have seen significant participation from members throughout the club. Once again, a big thank you to all of you have taken part and competed. Our August winners are as follows:

  • Seniors Medal: White tees: Winner: Meron Jacnya Net 63
  • Seniors Medal Yellow tees: Winner: Peter Gilbert Net 68
  • Club Monthly Stableford: Winner: Mark Tubb 40 points. Runner up on count back: Mike Stevens 37 points
  • Summer Pairs: Winners: Mike Stevens and Matt Watt 45 points. Yes, that’s right, a mere 45 points off 90% handicap!! Runners up: Mark Tubb and John Tubb 41 Points. A score that would have won in other years!!
  • Nine Hole Championship: Winner: Steve Sargeant 20 points: runner up Barry Woledge 18 points
  • Mike Jefferson Memorial Trophy: 27 players competed in this year’s competition in memory of Mike Jefferson. The conditions were tough with a strong north wind blowing and only 3 players managed to beat par! The Winner was Graham Blackwell with a score of plus 5, which is an outstanding score given the conditions. Dean Herritty on plus 2 and Barry Woledge on plus 1 were the only other players to beat par. Graham is the first “Grumpy” ever to win this trophy-and it was Mike Jefferson who founded the Grumpies all those years ago.

It is clearly evident that the Grumpies are on a roll as our Head Grounds man, Mark Tubb, his Boss John Tubb, our Anglo Spaniard Mike Stevens, the venerable Matt Watt and “smokin” Graham Blackwell all claim to be Grumpy-but who is the Grumpiest of them all?? I think Gary’s test and trace might soon be needed to work that one out!!

COMPETITION ENTRY FEES

In early September all those who have participated in the July and August competitions will receive an email from me detailing the entry fees due and the preferred method of payment. Please pay these fees promptly. The money goes into the members fund and is used for the benefit of all members.

Those who have winnings to come back will receive those separately

PROTOCOL REMINDERS

I make no apologies for repeating as follows:

  • Card Completion: there is to be no swapping of cards and no self-marking. You make up and mark the card of your partner and vice versa
  • Bunkers: all are in play and relief is to pick, clean and place within one club length within the bunker, no nearer the hole. In competitions please remember to mark your ball BEFORE you move it
  • Hole and Holed: the ball must be at rest in the hole. Much easier with the new lifting devices

CONCLUSION

Good luck to one and all. PLAY SAFE: STAY SAFE.
