Temporary 'Badger' Fence & GUR No Play Zone (Mandatory Relief)
A temporary fence has been installed on hole 7 / 16 to discourage badgers from entering the course and causing further damage. This fence is strictly temporary and is in place to protect the course and support ongoing greenkeeping work.
Please note:
Out of Bounds
The existing boundary fence remains the official Out of Bounds line. The temporary fence does not change the OOB boundary.
GUR No Play Zone (Between the two fences)
The area between the temporary fence and the boundary OOB fence is now designated Ground Under Repair – No Play Zone.
Under the modern R&A Rules of Golf, a No Play Zone is defined as:
“A part of the course where the Club prohibits play. Free relief must be taken from interference by a no play zone.” — R&A Rule 16.1f
Mandatory Relief
To avoid damaging the temporary fence and to protect the work being carried out, mandatory free relief is required whenever a player’s ball, stance, or swing is affected by this No Play Zone.
Playing the ball is not permitted.
How to Take Relief (Rule 16.1)
- Identify the nearest point of complete relief
- Drop within one club-length
- Must not be nearer the hole
- Must remain in the same area of the course (e.g., general area stays in general area)

This temporary measure:
- Protects the new fence
- Prevents further badger damage
- Ensures fair play and course integrity
