Fellow RAGS,
[ next RAGS trip - The Springs Golf Club, Aug 4th 2025 ]
We were fortunate to have the best of the day for our outing at the South Buckinghamshire. Having rained overnight the clouds cleared and the sun appeared for the duration of the day.
As usual, we gathered for bacon baps at 10.00 before teeing off at 11.00. It was good to see Alex Lawson playing with RAGS for the first time despite being a young working man. We also had a guest player, Bob Marshall, a member of Whiteleaf GC and participates in another society of which I am a member and wanted to join RAGS at South Buckinghamshire. Due to a ladies’ league match they were represented by Sue Pomeroy and Val Bate who acquitted themselves very well against the men despite being reduced to the maximum permissible handicap.
The rain overnight had no impact on the baked hard fairways which had obviously suffered from the long hot Spring, but the greens had been maintained in good condition. As usual, some of us faded by the wayside while others demonstrated their ability to combat any elements encountered.
Results:
Overall winner – Bob Marshall with 37 points winning £20. Bob won the money but as a guest couldn’t take the trophy which can only be won by a PRGC member.
Trophy winner – Geoff Rudd was second with 35 points.
Winner – front 9 – Val Bate with 20 points (£15)
Winner – back 9 – Sue Pomeroy with 20 points (£15)
Longest drive – Fred Mullin (£10)
Nearest the pin – Alex Lawson (£10)
Thanks to everyone who took part and congratulations to all the winners.
I look forward to seeing everyone at Springs GC on 4th August and I will send out the formal notice shortly. Meanwhile, it would be helpful if members could indicate their intention to participate so I can provide Springs with an indication of numbers to ensure we have the required tee times.
Best wishes,
John
