PRGC CBL triumph on a day of national sporting glory…

Sunday 14th July will go down in history as one of the greatest ever sporting days in the United Kingdom. At Lords the England and Wales cricket team won the ICC world cup for the first time in what was undoubtedly the best one day match ever played!! At Wimbledon, Roger Federer and Novak Jokovic played out the best (or maybe second best?) men' s final ever with the result going to a 5th set championship tie break. At Silverstone, Lewis Hamilton once again cleaned up in the British Grand Prix and in Liverpool all the home nations teams successfully negotiated the early rounds of the Netball World Cup.
Whilst all this was happening, the real event was taking place at Aldwickbury Park where the Princes Risborough CBL team secured a brilliant half in the match against a very strong Aldwickbury Park team playing on their very challenging home turf.  Leading off, Neil Martin and Gavin Adams secured their now almost customary win 4&3 whilst following up behind Bob Darvill supported by the returning Barry Woledge secured an excellent 2&1 win over a fancied Aldwickbury pair. The half was then secured by Gentleman Jim Findlay playing with Steve Wagerfield who, had very kindly stepped in at short notice as a replacement. These two delivered our best win of the day 5&3 thus winning the money and securing the result as a halved match 3:3.
Our other 3 pairs all experienced the strength of the Aldwickbury Park club and suffered an early defeat, mostly caused by at least one of the opponents rising to the occasion and playing well below handicap. That is match play golf of course but as a team game it all evened out.
To secure a 3:3 halved match away from home at a long and tough course like Aldwickbury Park is a great achievement and certainly re-sets our ambition for the rest of the season. We have three matches back to back at the end of August/early September. Our first ever visit to Shendish Manor, the return match at home to Aldwickbury Park and the final match of the season against our local neighbours Weston Turville, away. There is all to play for and the and the team are to be congratulated on bouncing back from the shock home defeat by Richings Park earlier in the summer.

Barcilon Cup Weekend – Ladies Results…

Good afternoon Ladies
I have attached the results of the Club Championship weekend. I think those who took part enjoyed the golf and bbq afterwards on the Sunday.
Thanks to Nick who worked hard as usual and also to Barry for doing the tee times and all the cards, also Jake, Luke, John. Without all these people these events wouldn't take place.
Love and best wishes
Jill

Barcilon Cup and Club Championship – The Results….

Gentlemen
Many thanks for participating in this years club championship over the past weekend. Saturday was probably the hottest day of the year and the heat certainly tested some of us to the limit. Sunday was cooler and in many ways an ideal day for golf.
I think we all agreed the course was in excellent nick and John/Jake had set the pins up to provide us all with some real challenges on the greens. Some of years were able to deal with that and others-well that's another story.
Please find attached the full Results schedule for the combined competition:
  • Barcilon Cup winner and Champion Golfer:                   Cliff Pearce
  • Runner up:                                                                             Bob Darvill
  • Handicap Champion:                                                           Richard Bennett
  • Divisional handicap winner:                                              Graham Blackwell
Very well played by these four gentlemen of Risborough. Cliff and Richard will be both be making a first time appearance on the honours board and that is a delight to see.
Once again many thanks to John and Jake for sorting the course and to Nick and the house team for all the clubhouse support and usual high quality F&B.
Neil will process the two rounds for handicapping purposes and you will see those results published in due course.
Well played.
Barry

Hole in one on the 8th!!!

On the eve of the club championships - Jim Calahan  nails an amazing hole in one on the 8th!! - for those with ambitions of winning... be worried, be very worried!!

PRGC Hillman Trophy team reach the last 32!!

We cannot remember the last time the Princes Risborough team lost at home in the CBL but it happened yesterday. Richings Park sent over a very strong team and our team must have had an off day as we succumbed 1:5. Our lead pair of Gavin Adams and Neil Martin performed well and won 4&3. Cliff Pearce and Alan Jackson fought to the very end but were giving away too many shots and fell at the final hurdle 1 down. Our other four pairs lost.
The conditions were tough with a gale blowing and John having put out the championship pins made it a real test for all golfers on the day. Clearly, the Richings Park players responded better than we did-it must be all that jet draft they have to deal with down at Heathrow airport??
On a positive note our Hillman Trophy singles team beat Wokefield Park and are now in to the last 32 of this, the biggest competition in the BB&O. They have an away fixture at Tadmarton to manage on 07 July so good luck to them.
As for the CBL, we play Wycombe Heights at home in next Saturday 15 June and I am sure the team will bounce straight back.

CBL Home Triumph at Fortress Risborough – Results…

The Princes Risborough CBL team continued their impressive home record in the Chiltern Breakfast League with a hard fought 3.5 : 2.5 win against Shendish Manor on Saturday 18th May. This was the first ever match between the two clubs as Shendish Manor have only joined the league in the past 3 years and up to now have been in other divisions to Princes Risborough. They are determined to do well and sent a strong team over to challenge "fortress" Risborough.
The match was very much one of two halves and , most unusually, three matches were halved on the day! Neil Martin/ Steve Sargeant, Jim Findlay/Craig Whitworth and Richard Aldridge/Dave MacKenzie all played their matches to the very end to secure their vital half points. In the other three matches, well they all finished "early" with outstanding wins for the Captain John Verrall playing with Dean Herritty 6&4, and Richard Bennett playing with Steve Wagerfield 4&3. On the other hand, Cliff Pearce and Pete Major were on the wrong end of the result in their match against the father and son Tarbox family!
This was an excellent win and a good day was had by all despite the early rain.  Richard Aldridge secured the first ever competitive match birdie on the redesigned 14th hole, whilst Jim Findlay and vice Captain Craig Whitworth continue their unbeaten pairs run this season."
The food and beverages were superb and well received and the course was in excellent condition and played very well. Thank you to all Management and Staff involved in making our day a special one.
That's it. The next matches are 08 and 15 June both at home.

CBL 18th green nail biter away to Richings Park – great performance!!

On Saturday 4th May the CBL team took on the might of last season's divisional runners up, Richings Park, away on their home turf up near Heathrow Airport. Unfortunately Richings Park is still suffering the vagaries of the long hot summer last year and their "turf" is still under winter rules conditions. That said the course played well and the relief afforded to all players came in helpful.
Richings Park are a big club and have a long course which played even longer in the very windy conditions experienced on the day. The match was keenly fought throughout resulting in a 4:2 win for Richings Park. Our team put in an excellent performance with Vice Captain Craig Whitworth and Gentleman Jim Findlay once again securing a handsome victory by 3&2. Our Captain John Verrall and the Welsh Wizard Dean Herritty matched that with another 3&2 win over a fancied Richings Park pairing. Barry Woledge playing with Graham Enfield and debutant Cliff Pearce playing with Pete Major both lost their matches on the 18th hole so keenly fought to the very end. Bragging rights go to John Verrall who after two visits to Richings Park remains unbeaten!!
A good day as ever with the very hospitable Richings Park team who were great hosts on and off the golf course.
The next match is at Home to Shendish Manor on Saturday 18th May. This will be new territory as we have never met before in club matches.
