I had the honour of being your Captain for the day today for our annual return Seniors friendly match against Whiteleaf.
Apart from a little bit of ‘mizzle’ first thing which was hardly enough to concern us, we had an excellent day.
The course was very good, particularly considering the weather we have had this summer; the greens were a little slow but true; the club hospitality was great; the carvery roast beef meal went down perfectly; and their front and back of house teams were very efficient and friendly.
All in all perfect - ahh but the result - we only just lost by 3.5 to 2.5 which is a tremendous improvement on previous years. In fact taking in to account our 4 - 2 win in March we are the 9 -hole Senior champions of the year!!
My thanks go to all the players namely Pete Smith, my partner, (we managed to get a half), the winning pairs of Barry Woledge/Steve Williams and Mark Tubb/David Whitaker, and of course the unlucky teams of Malcolm Dodds/Sunil Soni, Craig Whitworth/Doug Taylor and Jim Findlay/John Stephenson.
It really is greet fun representing the club both home and away, so please keep your eye out on the Seniors board in the club house for future matches.
Thanks again to all those involved and particularly David Whitaker for not only taking part but for his organisational skills.
